In order to get to vv. 17-19, we must be in the condition of v. 16
“When I heard” -> After going through the attributes of God, we are faced with Habakkuk’s response to seeing God accurately
My Lips Quivered
My Lips Quivered
Habakkuk had a lot to say in chapter 1, but he now stands speechless
There is nothing more humiliating than being in the presence of God
Beholding so great a God and calling to mind our low view of Him (Lk 5:1-10)
Seeing such splendour takes away words (Rom. 11:25-36)
A right view of God brings a level of speechlessness to the believer (2 Cor. 12:4 -> unutterable God)
I Trembled in Myself
I Trembled in Myself
More than just speechlessness, Habakkuk was physically, emotionally, and spiritually overwhelmed by the revelation of God’s character and attributes (Dan. 10:8-11; Is. 66:1-5)
This response is natural to the one who believes what God has said
Consider the weight of such truth!
God must be taken this seriously at all costs
He is not cultural, nor is He entertaining -> He is all, in all (Col. 3:1-17)

Corrected View
Until you plead with God to correct your view of Him, you will never get to the next verses
You must grow, meaning you must change -> tremble before a mighty God!
