EPHESIANS 4:26-27
EPHESIANS 4:26-27
Ephesians 4:26–27 (ESV)
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.
Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
I. WHAT IS RESENTMENT?
RESENTMENT IS - AGGRIEVED FEELINGS ABOUT SOMETHING OR TOWARDS SOMEONE
RESENTMENT IS, THEREFORE = A WASTE OF A GOOD LIFE
WHAT IS RESENTMENT LIKE?
II. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR RESENTMENT?
ANSWER = I AM.
IT IS MY CHOICE TO HOLD ON OR TO LET GO OF MY RESENTMENT
III. WHY SHOULD I DEAL WITH RESENTMENT?
A. RESENTMENT IS A DAM HOLDING BACK THE FLOW OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN MY LIFE
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
B. IF I ALLOW RESENTMENT TO FESTER TOO LONG, A STRONG HOLD WILL EVENTUALLY BUILD UP
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
A STRONGHOLD IS ANYWHERE IN MY LIFE THAT I HAVE GIVEN SATAN “A STRONG HOLD.”
C. WHENEVER I ALLOW RESENTMENT TO REMAIN IN MY LIFE, IT WILL KEEP ME BACK FROM EXPERIENCING THE VERY REASON THAT JESUS DIED FOR ME
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
IV. HOW CAN I DEAL WITH RESENTMENT IN MY LIFE?
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
YOU MUST FORGIVE THEM.
PRAYER OF FORGIVENESS & RELEASING OF RESENTMENT:
“FATHER, I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE HELD RESENTMENT AND BITTERNESS AGAINST ________________________. I CONFESS THIS AS SIN AND ASK YOU TO FORGIVE ME. I FORGIVE ________________________. REMIND ME, LORD, TO NOT HOLD ANY MORE RESENTMENTS, BUT RATHER TO LOVE THIS PERSON AS JESUS LOVES ME. FATHER, I ASK YOU TO ALSO FORGIVE _______________________.” THANK YOU FOR HEARING AND ANSWERING MY PRAYER. IN JESUS’ NAME, AMEN.
