This verse beautifully, emphatically, and in convicting fashion summarizes the moral test
It is not just keeping some rules, but being a personal disciple (being in Him)
Anything else waters down salvation
Accomplishing the Will of Another
Accomplishing the Will of Another
Christ walked in accordance to the will of another (Jn. 6:35-40; Mt. 26:36-39; Jn. 18:11)
Our Lord lived in total obedience to the Father -> let that sink in
You no longer belong to you (1 Cor. 6:12-20)
Christ was obedient to one He was equal to; let us be obedient to one far greater than us
Serving, Not Being Served
Serving, Not Being Served
Accomplishing the will of God is uncomfortable and self-sacrificial (Mt. 20:25-28)
To what extent can we hope to accomplish this? Where do we draw the line?
We don’t (Rom. 5:3-11) -> We go to the greatest extent possible
Consider who (beyond Christ) has done it for our sakes (Heb. 11:32-12:3)
Living for the Kingdom
Living for the Kingdom
Everything Christ did was with eternity in mind (Jn. 14:1-4, 19; Jn. 18:33-37)
Eternity bears far greater consequence -> be heavenly minded!
The moral test shows a disciple with a desire to walk as Christ walked
