Foundational Truth 10: Faith Has Power

Our faith in Christ empowers us through the Holy Spirit to fulfill God's will on earth.

Relevant Bible Verses:
Mark 11:22–24 KJV 1900
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
John 14:15–18 KJV 1900
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Romans 8:26–31 KJV 1900
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Big Questions to Tackle:

Q: "What is faith?"

A: Faith is believing in God and Jesus, and believing that everything they've said is absolutely right and true, without needing any proof or evidence. Having faith also means that you act like you believe in Jesus and His teachings, even when it is very difficult.

Q: "Does God answer all of our prayers?"

A: Yes and no; God does not grant every wish that we ask of Him like a genie, but He does hear every one of our requests. God will only respond in the way we want Him to if that's what Ho wanted. Even If God doesn't answer a prayer that seems like something He would want, like healing someone, we have to trust that God's plan is better than ours.

Q: "Who is the Holy Spirit?"

A: The Holy Spirit is the 'spirit of God that is in every Christian who believes, along with your own spirit. He is the 'part' of God who is here on earth to help us and give us "power."

We want our students to understand...

Prayer works, but it is not a tool to get whatever you want from God like a "genie." You have to make sure your prayers and your heart are aligned with God's perfect will and plan.

We are all made up of three parts; you are a spirit, dwelling in a temporary body, that you think and feel through your soul. Your spirit has been brought back to life through your faith in Christ.

Faith in Jesus Christ is not just something you know in your head; it is a way of life that gives you the freedom and power to fight against sin with the help of the Holy Spirit.
