Prayer: Thankful for the Life Lived, Good Done, and Lives Impacted
Prayer: Thankful for the Life Lived, Good Done, and Lives Impacted
On Behalf of Barney’s Family & Friends…
Thank You for Your Kind & Comforting Support
The Purpose of a Funeral is to Celebrate the Lives of Those Who have Died.
As I Mentioned in My Prayer…
No Doubt, Barney has Done Many Good Things in His Life
We can Only Hope that the Good We Do in Life…
Will Leave a Lasting Impression on Those Who Knew Us
And that the Good We Do Honors/Glorifies God
There are 2 Things that I Know Concerning Barney McDonald:
Barney was a Blessed Man
He was Given a 2nd Chance at Life a Few Years Ago
He was in an Accident that could have Easily Taken His Life…
But God Blessed Him with More Time
Barney was a Loved Man
On More than One Occasion…
I’ve Received Phone Calls from Rose…
In Tears Asking for Prayers for Barney
There’s No Doubt in My Mind…
That He was Loved By His Wife of 52 Years
I Know that Those of You Who Knew/Loved Him are Sad/Mourning/Hurting
I Want to Offer You a Passage from the Psalms…
That Promises Help in Times of Sadness & Suffering, Like These:
Psalm 34:17–18 (NLT)
17 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. 18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
God Wants to Rescue Those Whose Hearts are Broken/Crushed
And He will Absolutely Do that for the Righteous
Notice What the Psalmist Says Right Before that:
Psalm 34:12–15 (NLT)
12 Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? 13 Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! 14 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it. 15 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help.
A Surefire Way to Live a Long & Happy Life…
Is to Turn from Evil & Do What is Good
To Those Who Seek to Do Good/What is Right…
God Listens to Their Cries for Help…
In Their Times of Sadness/Suffering
And as We Already Read…
God Rescues the Righteous When They Cry to Him for Help
In this Time of Sadness/Mourning/Pain…
Turn to God
Give Your Life to Him
Live for Him
Do What is Good/Right
And He will Hear Your Cries of Sadness & Rescue You
We Hate Coming to Funerals Because We Hate Death
Loss of Life is Something that God Never Wanted for Humanity
The Scriptures Call Death an Enemy of God
But, Even Though Death is an Enemy of God that He’ll One Day Destroy…
Death is an Important Thing for Us to Think About
Ecclesiastes 7:2–4 (NLT)
2 Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies— so the living should take this to heart. 3 Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us. 4 A wise person thinks a lot about death, while a fool thinks only about having a good time.
Even Though We Don’t Like it…
Going to Funerals…
Experiencing Death…
And Thinking about Death…
Is Good for Us
It Reminds Us that this Life isn’t Going to Last Forever
There’s Nothing Wrong with Enjoying the Blessings of Life…
But We Need to Remember that it’s Coming to an End
And Then What?
Will We have Prepared Ourselves for What Comes Next?
Hebrews 9:27 (NLT)
27 And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment,
A Very Unfortunate Fact of Life…
Is that We’re All Destined to Die
We’ve All Got an Appointment with Death that We have to Keep
And Then After that Comes Judgment
We’ll Be Either Rescued From or Destroyed By God’s Judgment
We Need to Be Reminded of that
But There’s More to the Story:
Hebrews 9:27–28 (NLT)
27 And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, 28 so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.
Jesus, Through His Death & Resurrection…
Offers All People the Way Out of Death & Destruction
For Those that Give Their Lives to Him…
Resurrection to Eternal Life is Promised
His People, Christians, aren’t Afraid of Death
We Don’t Love Death By Any Means
But We aren’t Afraid of it Because We Know it’ll Be Temporary
We are Eagerly Waiting for Jesus to Come Back…
Because When He Does…
He’s Going to Resurrect All of His People…
To a Never-Ending Life of Joy, Hope, & Peace.
