John 9:35-41

John 9:35–41 ESV
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.” He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.
This is a really cool story in the book of John. It starts off by Jesus and His disciples seeing a man that had been blind from birth. Then Jesus does something very interesting and to be honest I am not sure what to think if I am this blind person because ONE: he hears someone spit near him, and that’s nasty, SECOND, people with any kind of “defect” so to say in this case blind, were considered as outcast and unclean and so he could have just thought this was another person looking down on him, and being mean, he is probably use to it, maybe he heard Jesus and His disciples talking nearby and maybe he has heard of this Jesus before and he had a little bit of hope that this Teacher, miracle worker he has heard about could give him sight, but then he hears Jesus spit and maybe he though oh i thought there was hope but he is just like everyone else.
Yes, Jesus spit, but He spit on the ground though made mud, spread the mud on the man’s eyes and told him to go wash. If you are this blind person what would you be thinking?
BUt the blind man does what He says and goes and washes and he gets His physical sight.
Then his neighbors see him and are like isnt this the beggar who was blind and sat begging, this blind man becomes the talk of the town, some people say that was him, others said no thats impossible that just looks like the man that use to be blind and beg.
The people kept talking about him and He tells them every time that I am the one that was blind, but the man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes and told me go wash, so I went and I received my sight.
They were talking about him so much that they eventually brought him to the Pharisees or religious leaders. They ask him over and over again how did you receive your sight and he said the same thing. the man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes and told me go wash, so I went and I received my sight.
they then ask him so this man that gave you sight what do you think of him and the man once blind says He got to be a prophet. The religious leaders didn’t believe him so continues to question him
They even call for his parents, to see if their son was telling the truth,
The religious leaders still don’t see or understand how this Jesus did this. Then the once blind man finally says this is amazing. You don’t know where he is from, yet he opened my eyes… NO one has ever…
They then throw him out and Jesus hears of this and meets him, and asks Do you believe in the Son of God?
The once blind man says Who is He? Jesus said I am He. And the man says, “I believe Lord!” And he worshiped him.
SO not only do we see this physical blind man receive physical sight, but even better He received Spiritual Sight or clarity because He recognized Jesus as Who HE was. As Lord. The Messiah, the Savior to come who would save people from sin.
Then the chapter ends by the Religious leaders question are we blind?
Jesus said, because you say you see, because you say you’ve got it all figured out you are blind, but if you were to be humble and repent from pride and relize you were spiritually blind and need a Savior, and believed in me as that Savior you would have no sin, because I am going to pay the price for it all.
The Pharisees were blinded by their sin of pride. Sin does that to all of us today. It blinds us from who God really is, the enemy uses sin to make us think that God is not good, but when we humbly come to JEsus and believe and confess that He is the Lord of our lives and He died for our sin problem, He is a good God, we receive salvation, because now our eyes are open to who God really is.
IF we are honest we all mess up. Regardless of what sin it is, we all have made mistakes, or treated people poorly at one time, and we can try all we can to get rid of our sin problem by ignoring it, or doing something else to make us forget about it, or even trying to do good to cover up what we have done but none of that will work.
Think about it this way. If I’ve got dirty hands and just wash them with water, I may get the surface level dirt, but we don’t actually get off the germs which are the core or the bigger problem, so thats why we use soap or I had a doctor tell me Germ-EX because it is better than soap because it kills almost all Germs 99.9%, but believe in Jesus as Your Lord and Savior that He really died for your sin and rose from the dead defeats and pays for and covers you 100%.
SO tonight I want to invite you to some action there is a pamphlet that your leader is going to give you and I don’t want you to put your name on it, but I want you to look at it, and it is a list of all differrent struggles or sins that maybe you have done, struggle with or thought about, and I want you to be honest and mark everyone that you have dealt with, and then I want to invite you to come and give it to Jesus. Not just this outwardly by getting up and just doing it, but that this would be a relflection of doing this the best you know with your heart and life. This is just a representation that you are giving it over to Jesus and believing in Him As Lord and Savior. That you would trust that it is paid for by what Jesus did on the cross and you would be like the once blind man in the story that says Jesus I believe in you Lord, and I will worship and follow you with my life By being obedient to your word and commands to love you and people.
