35. To the Lord concerning the demon of sadness that approached me and that alone [among the demons] did not create a desire, but whose entire work was in the head and in the back; having introduced sadness with thoughts, it then no longer required thoughts, but cast the soul into great and unnecessary distress:
You are my refuge from the affliction that surrounds me, my joy, to deliver me from those that encircle me (Ps 31:7).
