Selfless Service

Introduction

I recently watched a documentary on the demise of Hillsong Church in New York; the documentary was called ‘The Secrets of Hillsong’ and it can be seen on Disney+ if you are interested. After watching the documentary, I came away feeling a little disheartened and, perhaps even a little disillusioned with the God’s global Church. Here was a megachurch with close on 7000 attendants in one of the biggest cities in the world and yet today it is covered by a shroud of controversy and accusation. A Church that claimed to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ who said, Matthew 8:20 “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” but was making nearly $100 Million a year in annual profits and yet associating itself with a saviour who said, “ But is this what God intended for his Church? How are we to think of the crash of Mars Hill in 2014 and now Hillsong in 2020?
