God’s grace
God’s grace
I want to share a of God’s grace:
A certain man had a son who died in a war. His son had joined his father in a love for fine art. The son even began painting some during the Jays of battle. One of his son’s fellow soldiers brought the father a painting that the son had done during the days just before his death. The father cherished the painting and hung it prominently with the fine paintings he had collected by renowned artists.
Upon the father’s death, an auction of all the fine art was held. The first painting the auctioneer presented was that of the collector’s son. The only bidder for this work was the servant of the father who had also loved the son and knew of the father’s love for the son. After the bidding closed on this first work, the auctioneer read a letter. "The person who purchases my son’s painting gets the rest my collection as a gift. You see, if they love my son, they can have all I own."
This is what God did for us. This is what He said, when He made us joint heirs with Christ...” (Dr. Ronnie Grizzle)
This afternoon, I’d like to share with you about God’s grace.
Our Scripture today is found in
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”)
Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
This isn’t a long passage, but it is packed with great value that can bring us hope and can change our lives. It gives us hope that there is more than just this life, and because of Jesus coming to earth, God becoming man, He gives us the power to live a life that pleases God, based on the cross. The fact that Jesus died on the cross.
John referred to Jesus as the Word, logos. Jesus, God the Son, became flesh and blood just like you and me. God became a human being. We call this the incarnation. We celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas time.
He was full of grace and truth…
He was full of grace and truth…
The NLT says that “He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.
God’s love for you can never fail. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His offer to save us from God’s punishment still stands. Because He is faithful and trustworthy, He will not fail you and He cannot fail you.
Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.
Some translations say grace upon grace. It’s like being by a lake and the waves come to the shore, and when that wave is gone, there is another wave that comes from the middle of the lake.
God has poured His blessings upon us and He keeps pouring His blessings upon us. If you haven’t received Jesus into your heart, God wants to pour His blessing of forgiveness, and His blessing of His presence into your life. He wants to have a relationship with you.
John the Baptist said,
The law came through Moses...
The law came through Moses...
Moses received the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai from God.
Here’s a quick list of the Ten Commandments
You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make any idols or worship them.
You shall not take the Lord’s name in vain.
You shall keep the Sabbath day holy.
You shall honour your Father and Mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness or lie.
You shall not covet or envy.
Some may find that the God of the Old Testament is much different than Jesus.
Jesus didn’t come to abolish the law, He came to fulfill it. In other words, we don’t have the ability to pay for our sins. The things that we have done that are wrong, but God the Father sent Jesus to fully pay for anything that humans have done to break the Ten Commandments.
God’s unfailing love sent Jesus to the cross so that we could be saved. You are so valuable to God that He laid down His life for you.
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
John said that nobody else has seen God. We can’t see God’s face and live until we get to Heaven, but because Jesus came from Heaven, He has been with the Father.
This is what part of the Apostles’ Creed says,
“And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.”
The promise that we have is that Jesus Christ will come again. This is the blessed hope of the church. Because He lives we shall live also.
Are you ready to meet Him? Do you love Him?
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
If you declare with you mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God the Father raised Him from the dead, you will be saved from the wrath of God.
If you would like, pray with me to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
It’s as simple as saying,
Lord, be merciful to me a sinner. I believe you are Lord and that God has raised you from the dead.
Please come into my life, and forgive me of my sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Let’s pray!
