26. The Christian’s Influence

Acts 11:26

I. NEW PERSON

Being in Christ and being new—2 Corinthians 5:17.

A. Through the Savior—John 14:6, Acts 4:12.

B. Through salvation—1 John 1:7, 9.

C. Through the Scriptures—Psalm 119:9, 11.

Man doesn’t change himself—God changes him.

II. NEW PERSONALITY

We are sons of God—John 1:12. This comes through the Spirit—Romans 8:16. God planned it, Jesus paid for it, the Spirit brings it.

A. Possessions—1 Corinthians 3:21. All things are yours.

B. Privileges—Romans 8:17. Not only sons, but heirs.

C. Provision—Philippians 4:19; Isaiah 37:25.

Because we are His sons, all things are ours.

III. NEW PRACTICES

When in Christ, we will live lives that differ from those of the unsaved—Galatians 2:20.

A. From people of the world—2 Corinthians 6:17; Amos 3:3.

B. From practices of the world—Hebrews 11:25.

C. From pleasures of the world—2 Corinthians 7:1.

D. From places of the world—1 John 2:15–17.

Stay away from all sin—1 Thessalonians 5:22. Keep yourself pure—1 Timothy 5:22. Don’t fight sin—flee it.

IV. NEW PURPOSE

Paul’s desire to know Christ—Philippians 3:10.

A. Knowing His will—Psalm 143:10; 1 John 2:17.

B. Knowing His Word—Psalm 119:11; 2 Timothy 2:15.

C. Knowing His way—Acts 9:6.

It is easier to find God’s will than it is to do it.

V. NEW PROMISE

A. Of protection—Psalm 91:4. Covering with His feathers.

B. Of provision:

1.) Enjoyable life—John 10:10.

2.) Eternal life—John 11:25, 26.

C. Of peace:

1.) Peaceful heart—John 14:27.

2.) Peaceful mind—Philippians 4:7.
