1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
It is through God’s Word that all things exist, and this Word is Christ.
1 Long ago God spoke to our ancestors by the prophets at different times and in different ways. 2 In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son. God has appointed him heir of all things and made the universe through him. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
We live in God’s world, ruled by God’s Word.
If God held nations and peoples accountable for rejecting the words of His prophets, how much more will we be held accountable if we reject the Words of His Son.
The problem with being doers of the Word, is that, in ourselves, we can’t do it.
Diving into the Bread of Life discourse.
Context
John 6:35-69
The significance of bread throughout Scripture.
Bread = Life
Word = Life
Bethlehem means House of Bread in Hebrew
16 Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.
2 And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. 3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
The first of Jesus’ “I AM” sayings.
I am the bread of life.
I am the light of the world.
I am the door.
I am the good shepherd.
I am the resurrection and the life.
I am the way the truth and the life.
I am the true vine.
Eternal life doesn’t just speak to length of life but to quality of life.
It speaks to spiritual life, which is true life!
Every person that is born into this world is stillborn. We are born dead. And the only way to be made alive is to be born again.
Until we are born again we are missing the most important component to what it means to be alive.
Every other faculty that we have is meant to serve the health of our spiritual life.
Following Jesus always has some secondary/subsidiary benefits.
It makes you feel good, provides community, a place to belong, people that love and care for you.
But God will bring every person to a point of decision in their lives where they have to decide,
Is Jesus enough?
Am I all in?

These disciples weren’t confused about what Jesus was saying, they understood His Words, they just weren’t willing to obey.
Are you following Jesus for the Bread of Life, or just for the bread?
