Four basic principles of Bible study
Goal of bible study is APPLICATION
Interpretation with out application stops the process of change before it comes to
full fruition.
1. ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS
2. WRITE DOWN YOUR OBSERVATIONS
3. DON’T JUST INTERPRET IT BUT APPLY IT
4. READ IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN
Each time we read a verse over again, we get much more out of it.
After Bible study one must MEDITATE on the scriptures you studied.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it
day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.
For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Joshua 1:8 ESV
“Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.”
Psalm 119:97 ESV
“My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your
promise.”
Psalm 119:148 ESV
HOW DO WE MEDITATE ON SCRIPTURE?
1. PRONOUNCE IT
Read the verse over and over again, emphasize each word in the verse one at a
time. After each word, stop and write down your thoughts, even it it’s just a word or
two.
“And LET the peace of CHRIST RULE IN your HEARTS, to which indeed you were
called in one body. And be THANKFUL.” Colossians 3:15 ESV
