(V6) Don’t be fooled by those who try and excuse these sins
Sexual immorality, impurity, greed, obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes
A) People may try and excuse these sins by saying its not really sin.
Maybe they take scriptures out of context and twist it to (excuse their sin)
Maybe they say, “Stop being so old fashioned, everyone is doing it”. (Justifying sin)
Or maybe people just don’t care its sin and openly try to recruit you to participate
1 Tim 5:22 “Never be in a hurry about appointing a church leader. Do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.”
Be carful of who you choose to be friends with
Satan convinced Eve to eat from the tree that God forbid them to eat from
Gen 3:6The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.”
Eve had a desire (She saw the fruit and it looked good), Satan came and excused the sin by questioning the Word of God.
1 Pet 5:8-9 “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.”
B) (V6) The anger of God will fall on those who disobey Him
God takes sin seriously
A large part of the O.T deals with sin and the requirements to make it right between God and man
C) (V7) Don’t participate in these sins
Walk away, find new friends, be carful what you watch on your phones or on T.V
2. (V10) Carefully determine what pleases the Lord
A) Not what pleases us or our friends, but what pleases the Lord
How should I determine what pleases the Lord? (Carefully)
The Word of God is the authority of every Christian
Rom 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Allow the Word of God to change from the inside out
B) (V11) Again, take no part of these worthless deeds of evil
2 Cor 6:14 “Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?”
Expose the darkness, don’t hide it
C) (V12) Evil intentions will be exposed
Light shines through darkness
