How many know the Lord will make room for you? The First 33 verses of this chapter 26 gives us a picture of Isaac as he follows in his father Abraham steps.
What we must realize is that on your journey there will be challenges along the way!
We learn that travels to the land of Gerar. This is where the Lord had sent him in the time of famine. The Lord told him not to go to Egypt. Its interesting that Lord gives us direction to avoid certain places that may seems attractive or easy. He may send us in a more challenging direction. For what ever reason the Lord knows best. As the Lord told Abraham in chapter 12 go to land I will show you he tells Isaac the same thing.
Isaac ends up in Gerar. Now Gerar is in the southern border of Canaan. We can recognize has the modern day Gaza.
He goes to meet with Abimelech the king of the Philistines. What is important here.
Well in Genesis 20 Abraham goes and dwell with this same King. And interestingly they both tell deceive Abimelech about their wives. Abraham said Sarah was his sister not his wife. Even though that was partly true because Sarah was the daughter of his father. It caused Abimelech concern but but put out a decree that no one touches her.
Isaac does the same thing with Rebekah. Chapter 20 and 26 almost reads the same concerning this situation.
What is the significance of this text? What nuggets can we gather?
Here Isaac fines difficulty and challenges on his life journey. The resilience and resolve of Isaac is the lesson today. How many can say I have faced some difficulties today?
Get this you are doing what the Lord has instructed you but still having some issues.
The first challenge Isaac comes across is Jealous People presents problems,
Verse 12 12 And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. The LORD blessed him, 13 and the man became rich, and gained more and more until he became very wealthy. 14 He had possessions of flocks and herds and many servants, so that the Philistines envied him. (Ge 26:12–14).
Its a shame that as the Lord blesses you there will be some on lookers who will envy you. It was by Abimelech invitation that Isaac dwelt there in Gerar. Abimelech had put a decree of protection out for Isaac and his family which is saying you are welcomed here. The word said Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year 100 fold. That shows you he was blessed. We know how the Lord works he will have you blessed in the city and blessed in the field. I am not surprised how God blessed him because God has promised him as he did his father to bless him and his offspring. I have a news flash for you. That includes us. In Numbers Aaron was instructed to do what? bless the people.
The LORD bless you and keep you;
25  the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
26  the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.” (Nu 6:24–27). Bless/blessing has been most frequently understood in terms of benefits conveyed—prosperity, power. The Lord is in the blessing business but not everyone is happy about your blessings!
Now this jealousy rose up with Abraham also. As a matter of fact when Abraham was asked to leave because God prosper him so much the Philistines filled the wells that Abraham had dug with dirt. Its just like jealous folks. Now they we benefiting from the wells that Abraham had dug but because he was prosperous that filled the wells with dirt. That’s called cutting off your nose to spite your face. If you have any jealous spirit in you pray for deliverance.
Secondly you will have quarreling folks fighting against you
Verse 17
17 So Isaac departed from there and encamped in the Valley of Gerar and settled there. 18 And Isaac dug again the wells of water that had been dug in the days of Abraham his father, which the Philistines had stopped after the death of Abraham. And he gave them the names that his father had given them. 19 But when Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and found there a well of spring water, 20 the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” So he called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.
This name Esek means contention and strife. Isaac gladly move on to the Valley of Gerar. He figure i will get some distance from my haters. I see those folks stirring up mess. Hating on me because God’s been keeping me. The funny part you don’t even need to have a lot . Some folks don’t want you to have anything! You can have a fred flintstone car where you moving it with your feet and someone will be hating on you!
Here the situation escalates to folks quarreling over water. After Isaac;s men had dug the wells that Isaac’s father had originally dug and after his death the Philistines filled with dirt they had the nerve to say this is our water.
Isnt tat just like some folks. After you have done all the work they will come argue with you over what you have produced. Isaac was good because instead of fighting and bickering over the wells. He built another well . Guess what? The argues over that one. You cant make this stuff up. Look at verse 21 21 Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over that also, so he called its name Sitnah. . (Ge 26:21).
This word Sitnah means hostility or accusation. The accuser has nothing better to do than to cause you grief by making accusations and creating hostility. Isaac following Gods plan is finding jealous folks, envious folks, argumentative quarreling folks and even hostile folks. I don’t about you I don’t want to be associated with those kind of people.
Yet the Lord can move you from situation to situation all the time reminding you what he promised you from the beginning of the journey. I will never leave you or forsake you. Here it is this is your shouting moment.
The Lord will make room for You
22 And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So he called its name Rehoboth, saying, “For now the LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” (Ge 26:22).
I found out no matter what the enemy tries to do to me I have a BUT GOD experience. Because of the promise he made to me. I can jealous people causing problems or quarreling folks fighting against me. I heard more than once this week No weapon formed against me shall prosper!
