Having come to the end of the book, all that is left to do is rejoice with Habakkuk

Although There’s Nothing (v. 17)

Listed in ascending order of detriment
Figs (luxury) -> grapes (bad, but not detrimental), olives (oil used daily) -> no crops (daily food) -> no herd (meat, farming, wool, etc.)
From luxury to necessity
Habakkuk (and his people) will be left with absolutely nothing
This level of trial is nearly unable to surpass -> God’s instruction for Habakkuk is sufficient for him and you

Rejoicing In God (vv. 18-19)

Notice the object of Habakkuk’s rejoicing: “...in the Lord”
It is in the person of God, not merely His providence (who He is, not just what He does) (Prov. 3:13-18)
Nearly impossible to explain, but overwhelmingly obvious to the person who has the privilege of experiencing it
It is also in the eternal providence of God: “…in the God of my salvation”
There is more to rejoice in than earthly providence (Jn. 6:24-29, 66-69; Phil. 4:4-20)
God is the sufficiency (strength)
Walking by faith in God, not relying on what the eyes behold (2 Cor. 5:1-9)
Only when we do this do we have the surefooted nature of the deer (Prov. 3:21-26)
How can I help but rejoice? Living by faith looks like this!
