Introduction

As a child I was a very dedicated wrestling fan. The Undertaker, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Mick Foley, Randy Savage, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Roddy Rod Piper, Superfly Jimmy Snooka. My grandfather would actually record Wrestlemanias.
During the week Monday Night Raw would come on and typically every Monday there was a main event, and the main event always ended on a cliff hanger. One in particular I will always remember was on a cool winter evening of January 4th, 1999. I was in the 8th grade, I’m a teenager now so I could stay up and finish watching Monday Night Raw. This one was epic, Mankind versus the Rock. There was a possibility that Mankind could become the champion and as he went to pin the Rock, Kurt Angle hit him with a chair. As we began to believe the dreams that Mick Foley had of becoming champion were about to fade, the Texas Rattlesnake Stone Cold Steve Austin shows up hits the Rock with a chair and pulls Mankind over to pin the rock and become the champion.
Sometimes a situation can change depending on who shows up. This is the essence of John 2, Jesus shows up to a wedding, not with the intentions of performing a miracle but thank God that Jesus has power to show up in emergency situations. There are some things that we do not know, we do not know who invited Jesus, but we know that Jesus is there. I’m certain that the wedding planner had no intention of running out of wine but there are times in life where things happen that are beyond our control. The beautiful part of Jesus’ power is the fact that his solutions provide abundance. There’s a chance with Jesus that even in deficit, Jesus can provide in a way that is greater than your initial plan.

Even Though He’s Grants our Request, He’s not Prompted to Act Just Because We Ask

John 2:4 “Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.””
At first glance it’s easy to look at this scripture from a sacrificial point of view. The hour of crucifixion has not come, but it’s a relatable point for us. If we’re not careful we will treat Jesus like He’s some genie in a bottle. We have to be careful that Jesus does not become this fail safe for us when life gets tough. Even if our problem is solved, our trial has been sorted our, our fear and frustration is now eliminated, Jesus is still sovereign and is not a savior that just prompted at the request of us because we ask. Jesus can solve an issue in one minute, one year, one decade. No matter when he fixes the problem it’s the right time.
It also shows us that Jesus heeds a divine call, John 7:30 “Therefore they sought to take Him; but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.”

He Participates in Our Joys and Our Disappointments

Understand that Jesus is a part of a joyous occasion and tumultuous disappointments. The power of Jesus in this instance is He is worthy to be praised in the midst of celebration and He should be depended on in times of disappointment.
Life works like this instance, we can experience joy and disappointments in the same instance.
John 2:3 “And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.””
Understand because life can shift so quickly it’s imperative that as Christians we invite Jesus into our lives but we also remain obedient to Him.
John 2:5 “His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.””

Obedience is a part of Abundance

Understand if we want the abundance of God we have to remain obedient to His every word.
The first step at being blessed is understand that is our duty to be obedient to Jesus. We can’t expect our situation to change if we do not submit to His will and way. Many times we are looking for abundance but failing to be obedient. Understand that blessings even in the midst of our missteps is grace and mercy, but true abundance happens at the expense of devoting our life to Jesus Christ.
As servants we need to be prepared to follow exactly what Jesus expects us to do.
John 2:7-8 “Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it.”
This confidence is because Jesus understands his power and purpose. He puts us in the best position for success. Jesus started with the master, Jesus begins and ends with the best!
Revelation 22:13 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.””
Jesus is a master as solving some of our heaviest problems. These jars could have weighed up to 200 lbs.
Some of us are in the midst of celebrating and then all of sudden one of the biggest pieces of celebration becomes our biggest worry. Life works like that sometimes. The places you find the most joy can sometimes be the places that you have your biggest problems and grief.

Credit Never Trumps Purpose

John 2:9 “When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.”
Understand Jesus did not let credit get in the way of purpose. Sometimes we get off purpose because we are seeking credit.
The master called the bridegroom but the servants knew who really made things happen! Understand it’s not always about being pulled to main stage sometimes it’s about God showing favor to those that are underappreciated and undervalued. Granted the Bridegroom was celebrated but the servants saw something that everyone did not get to see. They also got to be a part of Jesus’ mission! Ask yourself today, are you looking for credit or do you want to be a part of the mission. Everyone might not know what you’ve done, everyone might not see the work you’ve put in but there’s always a blessing in being part of Jesus’ plan.

Are you Paying Attention to the Signs

Jesus has the power to change any situation just by showing up.
Are we paying attention to the signs?
Jesus is doing great things but are we paying attention to the signs.
Many of us are walking around with heavy problems, we are just one show up from Jesus for everything to change into abundance.
