Rahab's Faith

And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country. And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.

The king was scared

He was doing everything he could to preserve his kingdom

All the land was in terror

Joshua 2:9–11 KJV 1900

And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

The enemy knew who Jehovah was

They were horrified and terrified of His power

It is interesting how the world and Satan believe and understand the power God has when His on children underestimate Him

James 2:19 KJV 1900

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Psalm 78:40–42 KJV 1900

How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, And grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel. They remembered not his hand, Nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

Matthew 13:58 KJV 1900

And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Young Person be assured that our enemy, the devil is scared and terrified of our God

You can be unashamed, unaffected, unapologetic, unaltered, unabated, unalarmed, unamused in the face of our enemy

Not because you are anything but your Commander-in-Chief is leading the charge

Satan is no match for our God

The Faith of the Sinner

Rahab was an evil woman

She was an immoral person and everyone knew it

She was a “nobody”

People didn’t think much of her

Not a role model kids

No one looked up to her

Homebreaker

But when she met these two spies, her life changed

She brought them into her house and kept them safe

Why? Because she believed who Jehovah was.

She knew that the God of Israel was the ONE TRUE GOD

Her belief modified her behavior

You say you believe God

Where are your actions that back up your belief

I believe there will be a violent thunderstorm tomorrow.

What are we going to do instead of swim then?

I’m not making any other plans. We will still swim

But we can’t swim in a thunderstorm

Oh I know!

So what is plan B

I am not making a plan B. Because we are going to swim

Is there going to be a thunderstorm?

Oh yes!

And you’re not making a Plan B? Either you are not all there or you don’t think there will be a thunderstorm

You arrive at the church getting ready to come to camp

You pull into the parking lot and see a big trailer

You get closer and see that the trailer is where all the campers are going to be on the ride up to the camp

You get even closer and see that the trailer is hooked up to a bike

You then learn that Bro Jonah will be pulling the extremely heavy trailer with over 40 kids with his bike.

Your parents all of a sudden start to say that you are not allowed to go to camp.

Why?

first of all they won’t believe that I could even pull the trailer with my bike

and second, if I could they know that this mode of transportation is not safe

Since they believe that this wouldn’t work out their behavior changed

She made a request

Joshua 2:12–13 (KJV 1900)

Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token: And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.

She asked if her life would be spared

She understood that her home and homeland would be destroyed and that nothing was stopping the invasion

But she believed that the God of Israel would be merciful to spare her

She wasn’t making a request based on her goodness and righteousness

Remember she is a very wicked woman

She was making the request based on the mercy of God

The Spies Response

Joshua 2:14 (KJV 1900)

And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

His life for mine

She spared the lives of the spies, so the spies spared the life of Rahab

God sent His son to give his life so that we could keep ours

He gave His life for mine

The Foreshadowing of the Savior

Scarlet thread

Joshua 2:18 KJV 1900

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.

There is only one way to get to Heaven

There is only one way to have your sins forgiven

There is only one way to have the past pardoned

There is only one way to not be eternally punished for your sin

There is only one to access unlimited grace

There is only one way to become a child of God

There is only one way to acquire Christ’s righteousness

You can’t become good enough to gain God’s favor

You can’t say a prayer to get through the gates of heaven

You can’t be baptized to wash your sin away

You can’t read more Bible to make God like you enough to allow you to become His child

You can’t get rid of bad music to appease God’s wrath

There is nothing YOU can do to earn eternal life

Salvation is not about doing because everything has already been DONE

Some may be relying on Mom and Dad’s word to get them to heaven

Some may be relying on their past to get them to heaven

Some may be relying on their good behavior to get them to heaven

Some may be relying on their church attendance to get them to heaven

Jesus said, “I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIGHT”

Jesus paid it all!

Will you put your faith in Jesus today

Will lay everything else aside

Put your pride down

I don’t care if you’ve gone to church your whole life

I don’t care if everyone thinks you’re saved

Put your past aside

God will save you no matter what you have done

There is nothing stronger than God

There is no sin in your life that Jesus didn’t pay for when He died on the cross

The Fulfillment of the Promise

Joshua 6:22–23 KJV 1900

But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her. And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.

And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord. And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father’s household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

Joshua is Hebrew equivalent of the Greek word Jesus, both words mean “Jehovah is salvation”

The city was destroyed and burned but Rahab’s life was spared

One day this world will be destroyed by fire and brimstone

The unbelieving will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire

But your life, your soul can be spared if you simply trust in God

This camp will not help you spiritually if you never get born again

This is the foundation
