II. Mental atributes

A. Knowledge (Omniscience)

God knows all things, from all time, without exception., including himself.

1 John 3:20 NKJV
For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
1 Corinthians 2:10–11 NKJV
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

There is nothing that catches God by surprise.

Has it ever dawned on you that nothing has ever dawned on God?

Matthew 6:7–8 NKJV
And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
Psalm 139:1–6 NKJV
O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.
Furthermore, God is always all knowing. He is not forgetful, or only knowledge\able for a space of time. Because, I we discussed earlier, God is not limited to time His knowledge is the same of the future as it is the past, as the present.

God’s knowledge is unattainable by humans.

God forget our sins.
Isaiah 43:25 NKJV
“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.
God forgets by simply choosing not to remember.
Isaiah 55:9 NKJV
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Another question comes from God’s knowledge vs, mans free will.
Some will say that God does not know everything, while other say that man does not have free will.
We will discuss this more when we look at the doctrine of salvation. However, God’s knowledge of what will transpire is not in a direct competition or contradiction with His knowledge.

B. Wisdom

God always chooses the correct goal and path.
God’s knowledge is what He knows, His wisdom is that He always make the decision that brings about the optimal outcome.

A. God is wise

Romans 16:27 NKJV
to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.
Psalm 104:24 NKJV
O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions—
Romans 11:33 NKJV
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
Romans 8:28 NKJV
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

B. We can obtain wisdom from Him.

James 1:5 NKJV
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Psalm 111:10 NKJV
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.

C. Truthfulness

God is true and He is the standard and finality of truth.

A. The foundation of truth.

John 17:3 NKJV
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
1 John 5:20 NKJV
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
Our definition and understanding of truth is based off of God.
The current cultural trend for each to proclaim their own truth is a swipe at the truthfulness of God.
There is only and can only be one truth.

B. God is faithful to His promises.

Hebrews 6:18 NKJV
that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
Proverbs 30:5 NKJV
Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

C. We can imitate God’s truth.

Colossians 3:10 NKJV
and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,
Ephesians 4:25 NKJV
Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.
Exodus 20:16 NKJV
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Proverbs 12:22 ESV
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.
