Reaping and Sowing

we are looking again on relationships between Christians and other people
V 27 last week we saw, those who hear/ regenerated believers
and we learned about the instructions from Jesus on how we are to treat our enemies
and how we need the Holy Spirit to enable us to do this
today we are judging other people or...
V 37 do not judge
the worlds favorite verse
Jesus introduces the concept of reaping and sowing here
Galatians 6:7 LSB
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
Galatians 6:8–10 LSB
For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
In our giving
2 Corinthians 9:6–7 LSB
Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows with blessing will also reap with blessing. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
when a believer dies our body is planted in the ground
1 Corinthians 15:42–44 LSB
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a corruptible body, it is raised an incorruptible body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
sowing and reaping is a spiritual concept that says what we sow we also reap
and usually we reap a lot more than we sow
we are looking at this principle today
how we judge people is how we also will be judged by others
read Luke 6 37-45

Bertha Betterthanyou

Ray Stevens - Mississippi Squirrel Revival

Well Harv hit the aisles, dancin' and screamin' Some thought he had religion, others thought he had a demon And Harv thought he had a weed eater loose in his fruit of the looms He fell to his knees to plead and beg And that squirrel ran out of his britches leg Unobserved to the other side of the room All the way down to the Amen pew Where sat Sister Bertha better than you Who had been watching all the commotion with safistic glee Shoot, you should've seen the look in her eyes When that squirrel jumped her garders and crossed her thighs She jumped to her feet and said, "Lord, have mercy on me" As the squirrel made laps inside her dress She began to cry and then to confess To sins that would make a sailor blush with shame
V 37 Do not Judge
this woman has been a gossip, always judging people
she was happy to see the trouble the poor Harve was having
then every thing backfired on her
What is Jesus warning against here?
it is not the act of Judging
2 bananas 2 apples...
a group of bikers walking up the sidewalk ...
we make 100’s of judgment decisions every day
this talking about how we treat others
judging with a righteous judgement
Luke 6:31 LSB
“And treat others the same way you want them to treat you.
Bertha looked at Harve with safistic glee
how do we want to be judged?
when we judge others do we know all the facts
do we know the situation
do we judge with a good deal of grace?
do we condemn with a large dose of compassion?
are we willing to pardon because of love?
isn’t that the way we would want to be treated?
because Jesus promises that you will receive what you sow
V 38 the standard of measurement is what you give
the context of this verse is judging others (not money giving)
the farmer with butter and the baker with bread
we need to be generous with our dealings / judgments
if we are the others will be the same with us
when we judge others our heart needs to be moral and generous

Who is Your Teacher?

who do you hang around with?
what do they teach you?
spirit filled compassionate people will rub off onto you
V 39-40 Christ like followers of Jesus will lead you in paths of righteousness
and their judgments will be compassionate
their condemnations will be full of love wanting to restore a person back to the narrow path
and they are willing to forgive and pardon
if our teacher in always negative and finding fault then that is what we will be taught
if our teacher is just as blind as we are then we wont be led correctly
and our judgement wont be a righteous judgement
and we will overlook our faults and condemn others
V 41-42
we look at the hypocrisy in the people around us not seeing how bad we are ourselves

What Is Your Fruit?

V 43-45
we are all trees
when we look at a tree and see its fruit we know what kind it is
you never get apples from a pine tree not even a pineapple
but even apple trees produce some pretty bad apples
nothing that you would want to eat
when we have a moral, compassionate, and righteous heart we can judge the fruit that people produce
how can we tell if our heart is righteous?
Mark 7:20–23 LSB
And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders, adulteries, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. “All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.”
Jesus tells us in V 45
his mouth will speak what is in the heart
no matter how christian a person is on Sunday the truth comes out during the week
have some one ever apologized to you because they said something inappropriate?
or they hit their finger with a hammer etc..
what does come out of their mouth?
what comes out of your mouth?
the time for Judgement is now
it’s time to judge your self
what does come out of your mouth
off color jokes
jokes that make fun of a group of people?
the Bible tells us that we will be judged for every careless word we say
Matthew 12:36–37 LSB
“But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. “For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
or are like Bertha Betterthanyou
out of her heart wants to see people fail and make a fool of themselves
out of her mouth come gossip and dissension
what is your mouth revealing about you?
is it time to allow the Holy Spirit to take control of your heart?
is time to confess and repent?
