Payer
The lame man named beautiful asked for money.
Clearly, something they did every day
He was just in the cycle of things, stuck in life
Not able to get out of the cycle or thought that money would be the answer.
Peter and John Saw him
Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
God wants to break into our lives and give us something better.
others could see the difference.
So does God heal today?
I believe yes.
Alpha and Matt (invited to watch the session with us)
The fact is there were a lot of people Jesus didn’t heal, Yet even in pain and suffering was able to bring glory to God and bring healing to others - more than physical
What is on offer is 100% spiritual healing and waking up from the sin cycle that the world and we are court in. pleasing ourselves, power and control. We are called to be light and in Jesus' name break this cycle.
If you are a Jesus follower you have experienced this or have access to this power.
have you experienced a miracle in your life?
Braking out of the addiction in my life.
But my experience wasn’t overnight 10 years, Yet God still used me in this broken state and healed me in away I didn’t expect.
The name of Jesus is not a magical formula or an absolute power that you can tap into. ‘It is a dynamic, personal relationship with Jesus’ continuing presence and influence on earth.
What struggle were you helped out of because of Jesus or someone's faith in Jesus? Do you need that help today?
We so often forget and are surprised at God's intervening so let's take note of Peters's response.
Speaking to Jews on their way to the temple
When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.
You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
Wanting to keep the status quo
We were talking this week about our greatest temptation, selfishness, escapism and not stepping into the good habits that draw us near to God.
What about keeping others in the status quo, what do we do with people that challenge and offend us? do we silence them?
It is a very Australian thing, tall poppy, anyone challenging the norm or showing leadership and we want to undermine them.
Jesus came to challenge the status quo, He had something better for us.
When something is making us uncomfortable and there are a few hot topics at the moment (the voice, climate).
What is the element of truth we need to hear and repent of? or like peter and john how do we see the person and not the cercomstance?
Peter says (Pharees and Israelites - religion today)
You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.
By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.

This is an extreme example (but the same elements of today's passage), not my experience, we all will have different
What life have we been trapped in? Which way is your life spiralling now?
In Peter’s second sermon, he affirms that he is proclaiming no new religion but the fulfilment of God’s ultimate intentions for Israel and the nations of the world.
The Acts of the Apostles a. The Author of Life (3:11–16)
His life-giving power has just been powerfully illustrated in the restoration of life to the lame man’s limbs
God is not frustrated by man’s rebellion or our rebellion but he stands ready to perform a mighty reversal.
what are we asked as disciples to do with this? We are to be an active witness to this. Who Jesus is and who he is to us today.
Jesus taught the disciples the connections to Him in scripture
But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer.
And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
This is very important to the Jewish people, the fulfilment of the coming Messiah.
You thought he would come in one way, with money, fame and notoriety.
Like the Lame man that was the way things were done.
But you missed the fact that he was to suffer.
Pss. 22, 31, 34, 69
Like the writers speaking out of their pain and suffering, they fixed their eyes on God for their help. (He understands the pain of suffering and wanting relief and promises it in this life or the next for those that follow Him)
Now in the Name of Jesus that help has arrived and He has even conquered death.
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
The Acts of the Apostles b. The Appointed Messiah (3:17–21)
repentance involves a radical reorientation of life, turning back to God to seek reconciliation and to express a new obedience
3 things happen when we repent
our sins are forgiven (wiped out)
time of refreshing (Holy Spirit)
The Acts of the Apostles b. The Appointed Messiah (3:17–21)
Even now, those who turn to him for forgiveness may enjoy in advance some of the blessings associated with the coming era
3. Send you the Messiah appointed to you. take in verse 21
one interpretation of this is Peter speaking to the jews that the messiah can only return once Israel repents of their sin.
Another is the evangelistic work in the ultimate purpose of God’s plan to restore mankind.
finally the understanding of God’s love for you in appointing Jesus as messiah.
In closing Peter points out the promise of the OT that the Messiah would be a blessing to all nations and Peter is calling the Jewish crowd that it starts with them and what they have witnessed today.
