Guaranteed Promotion

Luke 15:11–12 NKJV
11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood.
The prodigal son wanted what he thought he was ready to handle:
The wrath of God is giving you what you want
When we’re impatient
Immaturity is always wanting what you’re not ready to handle
Luke 15:13 NKJV
13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.
He was wasteful
Inheritance without maturity is wasted on us
Know a man squandered his inheritance
When we get things the wrong way it we end up in unfamiliar territory
Wasteful living
Luke 15:14 NKJV
14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want.
Getting promoted in the wrong season can leave without nothing to show for it in a famine
It’ll leave you wanting for something more
When what he really should’ve been wanting was a relationship with the Father
It became not good enough anymore for him to be in the Fathers house
Before we finish this story lets look at Jesus’ promotion:
Luke 4:1–2 NKJV
1 Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.
Command this stone to become bread
Jesus had his flesh in subjection
Luke 4:5–8 NKJV
5 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.” 8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
The enemy will lie to you and tell you there’s a faster way to get what you want
Jesus new that the only correct way to the plan that God has for you is to worship him alone
Pride will tell you your self made
Or you have an easier quicker way
The fast track to promotion leads to pride and that leads to destruction
Jesus knew it and we know it, that the first step to promotion is through Humility
Worship to God
Luke 16:9–13 NKJV
9 “And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting home. 10 He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own? 13 “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Here Jesus is showing us the guaranteed sustainable way to promotion:
Be faithful in what is least
How do you handle the small things
What are things you’re overlooking because you’re too focused on big things?
When God is asking you to be faithful in small things
Are you stewarding moments
2. Are you faithful with money
Do you tithe
Do you save when you can
Are you generous
Can God trust you with the money that you have right now
3. Are you faithful with what is another mans
Are you faithful with what’s another mans?
How do you treat other people’s stuff
Your bosses time
Your bosses money
The people who employ you
Are you trying to build your own thing inside someone else’s business?
Faithfulness sow seeds for the future
Promotion comes down to 3 things:
The fear of God (or reverence for him)
Faithfulness
Matthew 25:23 NKJV
23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
Patience
James 1:3 NKJV
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
DOESN’T MAKE YOU A BATTLE HARDENED WARRIOR
TESTING OF YOUR FAITH MAKES YOU BETTER AT WAITING ON GOD’S PROMOTION
Finishing up the parable of the prodigal son
Luke 15:15–18 NKJV
15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. 17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,
He realized what he had become and the error of his ways
It takes humility to come back to the Father
Luke 15:19 NKJV
19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’
Some people stop coming to the Father because they’re fell unworthy to be called a son anymore
Go is not made at you
Luke 15:20 NKJV
20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
NOTHING THAT YOU HAVE DONE CAN KEEP YOU FROM BEING CALLED A SON OR DAUGHTER AGAIN
GOD IS ALWAYS WELCOMING US BACK WITH OPEN ARMS NO MATTER HOW BAD WE BLOW IT
Romans 10:9–10 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
