We are here to recognize on earth what has already been recognized in heaven
22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone.
23 This is the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
The word is . . .This is marvellous!!!!
22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone.
in the kingdom of God, the ones that are often overlooked or dismissed or ignored often become the very foundation of what God is building
God likes to call people that the world overlooks
God called Abraham, an old childless man to be the father of a nation
God called Moses, a man running from the law, to be the one to fight the power
God called Joseph, a prison inmate, to govern the nation of Egypt and save his family
God called David, a boy that was even overlooked by his own father, to be king of Israel
God called Esther, an orphan, to become queen and save her people
And before Jesus stepped on the scene, he was an unknown from an unremarkable place called Nazareth, yet God called Jesus to save the world from sin
God likes to call people the world would overlook
even in the kingdom when can overlook each other
Let me tell on myself . . . .at WMBC - Dr. West my friend, my brother, co-laborer in the gospel ministry, and my help in the music ministry.
A faithful member with years of church leadership experience, seminary education, one who I respected highly . . . and sad to say that it was someone else who suggested that he become the assistant pastor . . . . as soon as I heard the suggestion, I knew it was an idea straight from God, but yet I somehow overlooked that . . .
and when he was installed as our assistant pastor, I figured we would ride off into the ministry sunset together . . . Caver and West, West and Caver . . . and I overlooked what God was preparing him to do.
yes, we often overlook the cornerstones in our midst . . . we over look the jewels around us . . . some of you are sitting next to a cornerstone/jewel right now and don’t even know it.
Why do we overlook these jewels, and how do overlook these cornerstones?
For one, Dr. West is a Trimble Tech High School Graduate, that can certainly cause a person to be overlooked
cause we all know Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High school . . . DHS is the baddest school from east to west
I be a wildcat, how about you?
No, a big reason we overlook folks is because they are so humble
Abraham was humble, he told his nephew Lot, “you take whatever land you want, and I’ll take whatever is left”
and though Moses was constantly in the presence of God, the Bible says that he was more humble than any other person on earth
Joseph started out prideful but a pit, slavery, and prison humbled him . . .and when his brothers thought he would kill them for their treachery . . . Joseph said, “you don’t have to be afraid of me, who am I, I’m not God”
David was so humble, he would not touch the Lord’s anointed, even though he had been called to replace him
Esther was so humble that she continued to follow the directions of her elder cousin, even after she became queen
and the Bible says that Jesus humbled himself, even to death on the cross
And anyone who knows Dr. West, knows that he is an humble man - - - it’s never about him, it’s always about serving the Lord and serving the Lord’s people . . .
and God DOESN’T overlook the humble, he exalts them
and that’s why this man, a man after God’s own heart, this servant of the Lord . . . . has been elevated to the position of Senior Pastor of Good Hope BC
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
That’s his story. Though it was years ago, it seems like yesterday that Dr. West contacted me to say he felt he was called to Pastor . . . and he was seriously considering starting a new church, but was still seeking God’s direction
and I said he could visit and worship with us until God’s will became clear.
Well visits turned into years of humble service . . . and in due time God opened the door and his will became crystal clear
and thus verse 23 says
23 This is the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the Lord’s doing
let there be no doubt, God did this
Dr. West parents did a great job with him, but God did this
Dr. West has worked tirelessly in ministry for year, but God did this
Dr. West sought out a seminary education, but God did this
Dr. West had further preparation at WMBC, but God did this
Pastor Horton is the one who recommended him to Good Hope, but God did this
Good Hope voted for him, but God did this
God put it together, planned this, worked it out, prepared the way, set things in motion, opened the door
This is the Lord’s doing!
and it is marvelous in our eyes!
This is marvellous . . . I hope you see it
smooth transition from one pastor to the next . . . marvellous
pastoring in the church where you grew up in and served . . . marvellous
supported by so many who can speak for his character . . . marvellous
married to a 1st Lady that loves God, loves him, and has his back . . . marvellous
in this era of so many false teachers, and wolves in sheep clothing, we have a true man of God . . . it is marvellous in our eyes
24 This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
it’s so marvellous that someone ought to be rejoicing
someone ought to be clapping their hands
moving their feet
raising their voice
rocking from side to side
saying, God is good! and someone should say”Yes he is”
Thank you Jesus
won’t he do it
going forward everyday won’t be easy . . . there will be plenty of tests and trials . . . but this day . . this day that the lord has made, we are going to rejoice and be glad because of the marvellous things that God has done!
