1 Peter 2:4-10

Slide 1 Peter 2:4-10 “Coming to Him, a living stone—rejected by men but chosen and valuable to God— you yourselves, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual house for a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it is contained in Scripture: Look! I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and honored cornerstone, and the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame! So honor will come to you who believe, but for the unbelieving, The stone that the builders rejected— this One has become the cornerstone, and A stone to stumble over, and a rock to trip over. They stumble because they disobey the message; they were destined for this. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

Pray…we are a unique people, a chosen people, royal priesthood, a holy nation, a Godly possession, light called out of darkness and life surrounded by death…glorify you with this little time left

Peter is agreeing with Paul…EPHESIANS

Eph 1:3 “Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens.”

Who are those Blessed?

Eph 1:4 “For He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love…His LOVE

Before the world was formed Plan A was made and we were chosen...

Eph 1:5 -6 “He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will, to the praise of His glorious grace that He favored us with in the Beloved.”

The Exclusive Invitees WILL COME to Him [Jesus] - Because God chose and values His Son…

The invited will chose Jesus or not - [Free Will]

Free to reject Jesus and display God’s sovereign predestined plan of redemption...

Because of that Precious Cornerstone...

Everyone else…the unbelieving...

Jesus is who they Stumble Over...

Stumble...Because they disobey God’s word...

Jesus is who they Trip Over...

Trip [i.e. Unbelief]…Because they were destined to trip...

These were not appointed by God to disobedience and unbelief

These were appointed to doom because of their disobedience [Stumbling] and unbelief [Tripping]

Judgment on unbelief is as divinely appointed as salvation by faith

God Judges People for their Lack of Love for Him

Our being Raised from death to life, Eyes to now see, Heart of flesh, Moved from darkness to light, etc… Is God’s sovereign choice...

Biblical Election has five irrefutable facts

Election is the Solitary Decision of God

This is the most pride crushing aspect - Most stop here...

Negative Angle -

God hardened Pharaoh’s heart Exodus 9:12 “But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had told Moses.”

Jacob over Esau Rom 9:13 “As it is written: I have loved Jacob, but I have hated Esau.”

Jesus cursed the fig tree Matt 21:19-20 “Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He went up to it and found nothing on it except leaves. And He said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” At once the fig tree withered. When the disciples saw it, they were amazed and said, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?””

God Seals Sinners Fate Rom 1:28 “And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a worthless mind to do what is morally wrong.”

Fact: God is Sovereign, Holy, & Just...

Election Glorifies God Alone [His Mercy & His Grace ALONE]

God saved us for Jesus Glory ALONE Eph 2:7 “so that in the coming ages He might display the immeasurable riches of His grace through His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”

We are a chosen [genos] People group...

“People,” e.g., the Jewish people in Gal. 1:14 “I advanced in Judaism beyond many contemporaries among my people, because I was extremely zealous for the traditions of my ancestors.”
