First time God is used is in Gen 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
God thinks names are important. Here are some people that God picked their names before their birth.
Ishmael- Gen 16:11 “The angel of the Lord said to her further, “Behold, you are with child, And you will bear a son; And you shall call his name Ishmael, Because the Lord has given heed to your affliction.”
Isaac- Gen 17:19 “But God said, “No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.”
John- LK 1:13 “But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.”
Jesus- LK 1:31 ““And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.”
God in Gen 1:1 is translated Elohim which is used in the KJV 2,606x. The name means God (2,346x), god (244x), judge(5x), great(2x), mighty(2x, angels(1x), exceedingly(1x), Godward(1x),godly(1x)
Elohim (God) was used 28x up until Adam.
In Gen 2:4 God’s name changed to Jehovah Elohim. Jehovah means self-existing one and Eternal (6,519x)
Gen 4:1 Only Jehovah is one meaning toward Noah and in Gen 6:2,4,9,11,12,13,22 ; 7:9 God (Elohim) is used then when God closes the Ark in Gen 7:16 Jehovah is used again.
Through time God has been revealing His character and nature through His revealing of His names.
