Title: Equipped for Every Good Work: A Journey through Romans 15:14-33
I. Introduction
A. Welcome and prayer
B. Illustrate the concept of “equipment” using an analogy from your own screen repair business. Just as a technician needs specific tools to effectively repair a screen, God equips us with spiritual tools for service.
II. Object Lesson 1 – Verse 14 (The Equipped Believers)
A. Read Romans 15:14: "And concerning you, my brethren, I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able also to admonish one another."
B. Discuss the three "tools" mentioned: Goodness, Knowledge, and the Ability to Admonish.
C. Illustrate with a story about an individual (real or hypothetical) who exemplifies these characteristics.
III. Object Lesson 2 – Verses 15-22 (Paul's Ministry)
A. Discuss how Paul saw his role as a minister and his drive to preach where Christ was not known.
B. Link Paul's ambition to spread the Gospel to how we might be called to share the Good News in our everyday environments.
C. Highlight how Paul’s ministry serves as a blueprint for us to reach those in our spheres of influence.
IV. Object Lesson 3 – Verses 23-29 (Plans and Priorities)
A. Explain Paul's plan to visit Rome and his current priority to help the poor in Jerusalem.
B. Talk about the importance of balancing plans with immediate needs.
C. Connect to a personal story about how the demands of running iValue Repair required adaptability and prioritization.
V. Object Lesson 4 – Verses 30-33 (The Power of Prayer)
A. Explain Paul's request for prayers for his safety and for the acceptance of his service in Jerusalem.
B. Discuss the role of prayer in the believer's life as the primary "tool" that powers all others.
C. Use an illustration about the effectiveness of a power tool when it is plugged into a power source, just as we are most effective when 'plugged into' prayer and communication with God.
VI. Conclusion
A. Summarize the main points and reinforce the analogy of the believer being equipped for service.
B. Emphasize how just as every repair requires specific tools, each of us has been given specific gifts and roles to fulfill within God's kingdom.
C. Challenge your congregation to identify their spiritual "tools" and consider how they might use them in their daily lives to serve others and further God's kingdom.
D. Prayer of commitment and closing blessing.
Remember that a sermon is a living, breathing discourse. It should be tailored to meet the needs and circumstances of your congregation, and always leave room for the Holy Spirit's guidance.
