21 Days of Prayer

Men’s Convention

I want to shout out at all those who helped with VBS this week. You guys were amazing! We had over 50 kids out here every day. Pastor Rustan and Brenda did a great job putting it all together. It truly was a really fun time.
Speaking of Pastor Rustan. He knocked it out of the park last week I am so greatful to have such an amazing friend and pastor on my team. It is so nice to be able to get away and know that this place will continue to thrive even when I am gone.
Today we are going to begin the final chapter of 1 John.
Chapter 5 is so full of good stuff. Let’s Jump in.
1 John 5:1 a(ESV)
1a Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God,
Plain and simple this is the the Gospel!
The Good News
By Confession and Faith we are saved.
This was the only stipulation that every New Testament Writer stood by.
Paul says
Romans 10:9–10 ESV
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
A few weeks ago Pastor Rustan and I were accused of preaching soft truths.
I hear people all the time say that they need something deeper.
The problem is it isn’t that deep. There is no mystery........
It is not that difficult to grab ahold of.
Receiving begins at Belief
Everyone who Believes.
The word Believes here is an active verb.
Believing is an ongoing action.
Aliens, Flat Earth, Bigfoot.........This active action of believing and searching.
Relationship and new life in God Begins in the action of Believing that Jesus is the Christ.
This means I trust in him as God’s anointed Messiah, who was born of a virgin, was God in the Flesh, He Preached, Healed the sick, Made the blind see, was Persecuted, He was beaten, He died on the Cross, Was Dead and Buried for three days, and on the Third Day He rose from the Grave and took dominion over death and the Grave.
He is seated at the right hand of the Father advocating for me and all who has put their Belief in him.
You see Belief is the result, not the cause, of my new life.
By continuing to actively believe we prove that we are born of God.
The believing is what leads me to keep moving forward.
Then we get to see what this believing produces.
1 John 5:1 ESV
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.
This kills all the division amongst Christian Brothers and beliefs.
1, 2 & 3 John God is Life / 5:1–21

no matter where they live, what races they are, what languages they speak, or what they think about other biblical matters (such as the Rapture, the millennial kingdom, speaking in tongues, baptism, eternal punishment, and so on)

We should love all of those who share our faith in Jesus.
God determines who is in or out. That’s not your job.
Now John is going to give the test for determination as to who are true believers.
1 John 5:2 ESV
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.
There is no separation between loving other believers and following the commandments.
How many people have missed this concept.
Paul backs up John in this thought Process.
Ephesians 1:15–16 ESV
15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers,
Colossians 1:3–4 ESV
3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints,
1 Thessalonians 1:3 ESV
3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 John 5:3 ESV
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
Oh but we try to make it that way don’t we. For everyone but ourselves.
What if we began to work on our own obedience over our desire to knock others out of the kingdom.
1 John 5:4 ESV
4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
John repeatedly uses the term Everyone. We need to quit going it alone.
Everyone is a group effort. 21 days of prayer is an everyone effort.
I can see John remembering being sent out 2 by 2, I can see Him visualizing the Upper room experience with the 140, I can see him looking around at the fellow believers that would carry him in to preach.
See when we are doing it together as a collective body not only are we able to overcome but the process is not burdensome.
It is when we go it alone we feel alone.
When we do this with an everyone Response.......We OVERCOME!
1 John 5:5 ESV
5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
John 16:33 ESV
33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
