8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.
God makes the first move.
5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”?
Yearn = means He longs consistently
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.
Scientist say there is one million grains of sand a cubic sq foot on the beach.
If I was to think of JoAnn every 12 seconds for the last 40 years it would equal 9 square feet of beach.
If someone thinks about you that much I would say they want to communicate with you.
2 You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led.
The distinction that Paul makes between the idols and God is that God is a communicator and the idols are not.
2)Your Hunger is your spiritual thermometer. A thermometer tells us if we are sick. And when we are sick we usually loss our appetite.
If we were to only eat one meal a week our body will speak to us. The scary thing is the less we get seek God through His spirit and Word the less we develop a appetite for the things of God and our spirit get quitter.
When we don’t eat physically our body begins to scream at us but if we don’t eat spiritually our spirit gets quitter.
3) We have a big part to play our level of hunger for God. How we play a part in our hunger for God is to protect our souls. What we choose to fill our appetite with.
7 A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
loathes = doesn't want anything to do with it.
It like going to a buffet (favorite buffet) then going to another buffet with the same food 3 hours later. We no longer have a appetite for it.
You could say a satisfied soul loathes the Word of God.
Hebrew parents would give their children honey every time they brought up scripture to teach them that God’s word is sweet.
The average youth in American between the ages of 15 and 25 years old spend 57 hours on their screens a week.
Average American spends 7 hours a day looking at a screen each day.
44% of our waking hours is spent on looking at a screen.
4)REV 3:15-16
15 “ ‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!
16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.
11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.
There are two groups that seek God.
Those who seek God for what He can do for them
And those who seek God for who He is.
Those who seek His hand and those who seek His face.
24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,
25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.
3 Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people.”
15 And he said to him, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here.
Where is here? Here is in the desert where it is uncomfortable. Its not a place that the natural man would choose. Can you imagine eating the same thing or eating bread every single day year after year. Wearing the same clothes. How dull that would get.
Mosses says if I had to choose I would rather have your presence and suffer then to live with your promises without God’s manifest presence.
There are two different presence of God.
The Omani presence of God means He is everywhere vs Manifest presence of God.
21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
My reward isn’t the promise land or blessing but His manifest presence.
Did God delivered Isreal from slavery through the red sea to the promise land? No to Himself. I’m redeemed from sin but I’m redeemed into God.
16 For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in your going with us, so that we are distinct, I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth?”
It is the presence of God that separates us from all others.
A.W. Tozer
“God wills that we should push on into His presence and live our whole life there. This is to be know to us in conscious experience. It is more than a doctrine to be held. It is a life to be enjoyed every moment of every day. “
This can only be had if we give it all to Jesus. That we are all in.
