What Must Be Done With The Old Man?
Put To Death (v.5)
Put Off (vv.8-9)
“They must be put off or removed from oneself as one would put off or remove a garment from one’s body” – Weaver
Vincent – “as one puts of the garments of the night”
Bible Knowledge – “means ‘to put off’ like a suit of clothes. In its ethical use here it means to ‘throw it off like a dirty shirt”
Sexual Immorality and Impurity

COVETOUSNESS CAN LEAD TO IDOLATRY

Anger
Anger is not always sinful – Eph. 4:26
SUGGEST A MORE SETTLED OR ABIDING CONDITION OF MIND, FREQUENTLY WITH A VIEW TO TAKING REVENGE (VINE)
Wrath
WHEN ANGER BOILS UP AND BECOMES VENGFUL RAGE

The difference in anger and wrath is really the degree Anger uncontrolled can lead to wrath
Malice
WHEN SOMEONE WANTS TO PHYSICALLY HARM A PERSON THE ANGER AND WRATH ARE DIRECTED TOWARD
They must be put away – Eph. 4:31
Slander or Blasphemy
“Speech directed against the good character of another, or against God” (Truth Commentaries -Philippians and Colossians - Walton Weaver)
This context indicates the blasphemy is directed toward men

Include profanity, cursing, dirty jokes, and discussions of filthy topics

Forbearing is not overlooking or tolerating the short comings of a person
Forbearance is needed when a brother has sinned and is trying to come back
Paul in Eph. 4:2 commands forbearance one toward another
