Last week, talked about preparation leading to proofing and production.
At the end, we talked about the fact that we can’t just stay in our production and need to be ready for what’s next.
We like to talk about certain topics for a long time. Pre-COVID we talked about streaming for years and did nothing.
Sometimes God uses a crisis as a catalyst to spur us to action.
Another topic we have talked about for a while is discipleship, and I feel that this is the perfect time for us to start taking action to get it done.
What is Discipleship?
What is Discipleship?
19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Discipleship is intentional - “Go”
It doesn’t JUST happen.
We often sit and expect the pastor or leadership to be the one’s discipling and either appreciate it when it does or lament when it doesn’t.
Discipleship is for everyone - “All nations”
This literally means all nations, but figuratively means all people from the youngest child, to the oldest church member
Discipleship starts before salvation - Peter’s Confession
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus responded, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven.”
Peter had been Jesus’s disciple for a while before he confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior. (First called in Matthew 4) We must start discipling children and adults before they come to salvation as this will lead them to the Lord.
We sometimes see salvation as the end goal when really it’s the middle of the process

Discipleship is required of everyone - “Great Commission”
So How?
So How?
We just do it!
Sometimes the hardest part is just getting started!
We disciple each other!
Start with who you are comfortable with. - Bobby & Gabriel
We learn how to together!
Starting next week we’ll be looking at discipleship. Discipleship has no curriculum, so I won’t either. You teach things as you encounter them (like kids!) so that’s what we are going to do too!
I will email homework/reading each week and we’ll see where it goes through prayer and God’s direction. (Maybe not biblical, maybe offensive, maybe challenging)
If you don’t have internet, let me know so I can print it for you.
Wrap It Up!
Wrap It Up!
God didn’t cause these circumstances to happen, but it did. But Romans 8:28 “28 We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” tells us that God can use these circumstances for his glory, and I believe that if we work together, we can continue to fulfill the mission of the church while we support our pastor and give him the time to rest and grieve that he needs.
