Life is hard. We struggle many times with navigating the ups and downs of it all. It’s easy to get stuck. When that happens, it’s easy for us to settle for where we are and stay there. But that is not the life Jesus came to give you. Somewhere deep in all of us is a longing for more - more life, more joy, more peace. What does that kind of life look like? How do you find it? Where do you begin? And what can you do about all the stuff that gets in the way? Fortunately for us, Jesus came to help us answer these very questions and so many more. He came to show us that when life hurts, He heals.
God’s way of living always contradicts the world’s way.
Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
At the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is teaching a series of statements often referred to as the Beatitudes. Each starts with the words "blessed are." Blessing, in this sense, refers to a declaration of what is good and why. It does not mean that the blessed person will feel happy, necessarily.
The difference between happiness and being "blessed" is especially obvious in this verse. This beatitude states that those who mourn are blessed. Those who mourn, by definition, are not happy. Jesus wants His followers to understand that those who experience mourning are not hopeless.
So how do I have a Monday Mourning Faith?
