Part One: Redemption from Egypt (Chp. 1-18)
God redeems his people from Egypt and Pharoah
God preserves his people in the Wilderness: From hunger, thirst, attack.
We are in the middle of the second part of the book that deals with: The Revelation of God which goes up until Ch. 40.
In chp.21-23: God reveals some laws to Moses. Moses receives some Laws from God…
Most of them involve what we call the Civil Laws dealing with crimes & punishments…
We mentioned that these laws don’t deal with every single situation in life… but gave general principles for life...
2. Current Study’s Overview
2. Current Study’s Overview
Now as we come to chps. 24-32 we continue this section we’ve titled: A Holy Revelation.
God will continue to reveal to His people certain laws, customs, and His covenant w/ the people.
We’re going to see that Moses will go up the Mountain of God, Mount Sinai, Mount Horeb.
There he will receive the Tablets of Stone the 10 commandments… directions to build the Ark of the Covenant… the Tabernacle of Meeting & Furnishings… the Priestly Garments…
There are 8 things we want to look at in chp. 24 & 25…
1. The Covenant of the Lord Vs. 1-8
1. The Covenant of the Lord Vs. 1-8
1.1 Moses’ Family: Bro & Nephews Vs. 1
1.1 Moses’ Family: Bro & Nephews Vs. 1
Aaron is Moses’ brother, the first High Priest… Nadab & Abihu are Aaron’s sons… in Lev.10: these two offered strange fire to the Lord and it cost them their lives…
1.2 Obedience Vs.2-8
1.2 Obedience Vs.2-8
Burnt Offering: consecration, set apart... Peace Offering: fellowship, communion...
This Covenant involved all the laws that Moses received… both the Moral laws… & Civil laws…
Now, notice twice the people said they would obey them, vs.3 & vs.7… and we know that didn’t turn out so well…
APPLICATION: Understand, Trying to be obedient to the Lord in our own strength and power is not hard… it’s impossible…
This Covenant was confirmed and made valid with Blood, vs.8…
Moses sprinkled it on the altar & the people (only here) in fact in Heb.9:18-22 we’re given a little more information… Read...
18 Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. 19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,
20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” 21 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry.
22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
So the shedding of blood was for remission… the remission of sin… it was the blood that covered their sins…
So the Old Covenant was a Blood Covenant that Covered their Sins…
Now the New Covenant is also a Blood Covenant...
20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
But the difference is in the Blood… because Jesus’ blood doesn’t cover our sins… it takes away our sins…
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
2. The Seeing the Lord Vs. 9-11
2. The Seeing the Lord Vs. 9-11
2.1 The 70 Elders Vs. 9
2.1 The 70 Elders Vs. 9
The 70 elders are no doubt the Judges that Moses appointed back in Ex.18: at the advice of Jethro…
2.2 They Did No See God Physically Vs. 10-11
2.2 They Did No See God Physically Vs. 10-11
When it says they saw God… don’t picture them standing there staring at God…
John 1:18 no one has seen God at anytime…
John 6:46 no one has seen the Father…
Ex.33:20 no man shall see Me and live
So when it says they saw God… they saw a vision or representation of God… but not God Himself…
In fact the focus is not on God… but what’s under His feet… beautiful bluish stone…
3. The Going up to the Lord Vs. 12-18
3. The Going up to the Lord Vs. 12-18
3.1 Joshua & Moses’ 4th Trip to the Mountain Vs. 12-14
3.1 Joshua & Moses’ 4th Trip to the Mountain Vs. 12-14
This is Joshua the son of Nun who would lead the Children of Israel into the Promised Land… Hur is a chief assistant to Moses…
This is Moses’ 4th trip up the Mountain…
3.2 Vs. 15-18
3.2 Vs. 15-18
This is the 1st of 2 trips where Moses will spend 40 days & 40 nights on the Mountain…
This trip begins here and continues through Ex.32… the 2nd 40 day 40 night trip will be in Ex.34:…
As we’ve mentioned on this 40 day trip Moses will receive many things from the Lord…
And this marks an important point in the history of Israel… because here they become a Theocracy…
They are now Ruled by God… Governed by God… because they said they would be Obedient to God…
APPLICATION: Now while our World will not be a Theocracy until the Millennial Kingdom… our lives should be…
Our lives should be ruled & governed by God… this speaks of Lordship… is Jesus Lord of our lives…
APPLICATION: Jesus Christ being our Lord means more than just a title; it means surrendering our lives to Him, recognizing His sovereignty, and making Him the Master of our hearts.
It's about letting go of our control, our desires, and our way, and allowing Him to guide us on a path of righteousness.
In Romans 10:9, we are told that "if you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." This statement requires more than just words; it requires belief, trust, and a heart's commitment to Jesus as our Lord.
Making Jesus as our Lord is a call to humble ourselves, to recognize that we don't have all the answers, but He does.
It's about living a life that reflects His love, mercy, and justice. It's a continuous journey of growing in faith, seeking His wisdom, and living in obedience to His commandments.
ILLUSTRATION: Imagine a ship sailing in a vast, stormy sea without a captain. The waves are fierce, the winds are howling, and the crew is lost and afraid. Without a captain, the ship is directionless, and disaster is imminent.
Now picture Jesus as the Captain of that ship. With Him at the helm, the winds and waves still exist, but there's a sense of direction, purpose, and calm assurance.
The crew trusts the Captain, follows His commands, and finds safety and purpose in His guidance.
In the same way, making Jesus Christ your Lord is like making Him the Captain of your life. The storms and challenges will still come, but with Him in control, you have guidance, purpose, and assurance.
Your trust and obedience to Him will lead you to safe shores and fulfill the purpose for which you were created.
4. Offering to the Lord Ch. 25:1-2
4. Offering to the Lord Ch. 25:1-2
So all the offerings given to the Lord are to be given with a willing heart…
Moses don’t coerce them… compel them… or lay a heavy trip on them…
Let them give willingly… freely… not grudgingly…
APPLICATION: This is how we are to give to the Lord…
7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
That’s why we never ask for money… never push the issue… it’s between you and the Lord…
5. Sanctuary for the Lord Vs. 3-9
5. Sanctuary for the Lord Vs. 3-9
So here are some of the building materials for the Sanctuary or Tabernacle or Tent of Meeting…
The Lord wanted them to build a sanctuary so that He may dwell among them… vs.8.
16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”
6. The Ark of the Lord Vs. 10-22
6. The Ark of the Lord Vs. 10-22
6.1 Dimensions Vs. 10

Cherub is a class of angel… Satan was an anointed Cherub in Ezek.28:14… Cherubim is plural.
The Ark of the Testimony will go into the Most Holy Place in the Tabernacle…
7. Table of the Lord or Table of Showbread Vs. 23-30
7. Table of the Lord or Table of Showbread Vs. 23-30
7.1 Vs. 23
7.1 Vs. 23
Table: 3’ long x 1’-6” wide x 2’-3” tall…
7.2 Vs. 24-30
7.2 Vs. 24-30
handbreadth is about 3” wide… so a 3” frame around the table to keep things from falling off…
Showbread: in Lev.24: there were 12 loaves of bread representing the 12 Tribes of Israel…
To remind them of their Provisions from God… & their Dependency on God…
How important it is that we are totally dependent upon the Lord for everything…
19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
8. Lamp of the Lord or Lamp Stand Vs. 31-40
8. Lamp of the Lord or Lamp Stand Vs. 31-40
One talent of gold is about 75 lbs. One piece of pure gold was to be used…
This is the Manora of today… the 7 lamps, vs.37… 3 on each side of the middle one…
There is also a 9 holder lamp stand this is the Hanukkah, festival of light…
in 164 BC Antiochus Ephiphanies defiled the Temple in Jerusalem by sacrificing pigs… this caused the great Maccabean revolt… once the Greeks were defeated they set out to cleanse the Temple…
By lighting the Manora, but only had enough oil for one day… but miraculously the Manora stayed lit for 8 day… thus the 8 days of Hanukkah… and the 9 candlestick holder Manora…
We see in Ex.27:20 this lamp was to burn continually… giving light continually…
What a beautiful picture of Jesus this paints for us…
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
