Context
The book of Matthew was written somwhere between 50 and 80 AD
It shares a lot of meterial with Mark and Luke (the synoptic gospels)
The apostle Paul
Its primary concern is to show that Jesus is the Messiah.
(I believe the Bible is without error)
This is why the lineage differs from Luke’s
This does not mean that it contain error.
Jesus Is the Heir
Heir of Creation
Matthew starts his gospel off naming Jesus as the Christ
Christ- Greek word for Messiah
messiah-promised one
God himself-
Is. 14
: Immanuel- God with Us
Heir of the Kingdom
Jesus son of David shows that he is of royal blood. This phrase paints Jesus as the rightful heir.
There are 16 Kings in the bloodline (everyone in vv.6-11)
Heir of the covenant
This is emphasized by being called the son of Abraham
The covenant is singled down until Jacob
