Telos: Jesus will always challenge our, Why?
Information
Girls and cookies at Christmas time.
2 Corinthians 5:9–10 NLT
So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him. For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.
Matthew 5:20 NKJV
For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
What we do here will determine our heavenly experience.
Not about destination, but about rewards.
No participation trophies in Heaven.
Inspiration
Matthew 6:1–4 NKJV
“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Fixing flat tire for elderly woman on way to play basketball game.
Revelation
Jesus will always challenge your “Why?”
He always will. Your why is more important to Him than what you did.
Application
1. We don’t talk about the deeds we do because we know our flesh and how easy it is to fall in the trap.
2. Trumpet blowers are missing something in their identity.
3. If you try to get man to name you or affirm you, You will live at the end of a short chain. Hero to Zero
Take the Praise Test: Proverbs 27:2
Proverbs 27:2 NKJV
Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.
Transformation
We don’t say, Praise Jesus and not me.
We do say, Thank you. I am grateful for the opportunity. I am glad I could help. God has done so much for me.
Neighbor we gave cookies to, ends up at our door asking to receive Christ.
