Reality of Sin

Romans 3:23 ESV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Several ways to describe sin such as falling short or missing the mark
Greater way to understanding sin as separation from God and its consequences.
Romans 6:23 ESV
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Sin is not just the breaking of a set of rules, edicts, and commandments. Sin is a violation of a relationship,
For a Christian, when you sin you jeopardize the most important relationship you will ever have

The Need for Redemption

Redemption defined:
The action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil.
Hebrews 9:22 ESV
Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
Recognizing the impossibility of self-redemption and the necessity of a sacrifice.
I cannot save me! - not matter how good, famous, powerful, influential, sincere, or whatever adjective I use - why?
Romans 3:23 ESV

The Power of Christ’s Sacrifice

Hebrews 9:24–26 ESV
For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
1 Peter 2:24 ESV
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Because of Christ’s sacrifice, I can overcome sin in my daily life
1 Corinthians 15:57 ESV
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:12–14 ESV
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
The Holy Spirit Empower us to overcome sin in our life
Galatians 5:16 ESV
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Responding to Christ’s Sacrifice

For the Christian
1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We must continually seek forgiveness and restoration through confession and to live in the freedom and victory received through Christ's sacrifice.
