Resistance Toward the Saved
Resistance Toward the Saved
(Zechariah 3)
Satan is trying to “resist” Joshua. (an act of opposition)
Revelation 12:10 “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”
Joshua never had to say a word, because God done the talking!
The LORD said to Satan, THE LORD rebuke thee! God the Father was talking to God the Son because Christ is our advocate!
1 John 2:1-2 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
How do we fight resistance towards our salvation? We don’t need to fight against Satan when it comes to our salvation, Christ does that for us! Take Satan to the time and place where you got saved!
Resistance Toward the Smug (1 Peter 5:5)
Resistance Toward the Smug (1 Peter 5:5)
God resisteth the proud (an act of opposition). (also to be in battle against)
Proud - to show one’s self above others, despising others, to be pre-eminent (Only Christ is to be preeminent Colossians 1:18 “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” ) unhealthy elevated view of one’s self, abilities, or possessions.
Proverbs 21:4 “An high look, and a proud heart, And the plowing of the wicked, is sin.”
Psalms 138:6 “Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: But the proud he knoweth afar off.”
Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goeth before destruction, And an haughty spirit before a fall.”
2 Timothy 3:1-4 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;”
How do we fight resistance towards God being smug? We start shrinking! He giveth grace to the humble!
Humble - having a low opinion of one’s self and a deep sense of unworthiness in the sight of God, to make lowly in mind, to reduce arrogance and self-dependence.
John 3:30 “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
Philippians 2:6-8 “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
James 4:6-8 “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God.
Submit - to surrender, to yield to one’s person to the power of another, to GIVE UP RESISTANCE.
1 Peter 5:5 “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.”
Resistance Toward Satan (1 Peter 5:8-9)
Resistance Toward Satan (1 Peter 5:8-9)
We are to try our best to resist Satan (something that is fixed which interrupts something that is moving.)
Resist steadfast = strong and immovable
Psalms 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; And in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
(Matthew 4)
We should always try to be moving closer to the Lord. If we are not, we’re resisting God. Satan may be in our way.
When Satan takes a stand against you, you need to take a stand against Satan!
James 4:7-8 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
You resist Satan by drawing closer to God! Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world!
Resistance Toward Spirit
Resistance Toward Spirit
Acts 7:51 “Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.”
Resist - the force of something which prevents the effect of another power.
a golf ball in the air being resisted by the wind
wood being cut by a saw
strong waves of a ship
Ephesians 4:30 “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”
Grieve - to affect with sadness
You can affect the working of the Holy Spirit in your life, just as the wind affects a golf ball in the air.
How do we fight resistance toward the Spirit? We look at the Scriptures!
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
We fight resistance toward the Spirit by instant obedience!
It makes the Spirit sad when we don’t obey him!
James 4:4-5 “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?”
