Dragon of Chaos
hard make out this cosmic horror
shimmering,
multiheaded,
flows stormy sea
if make out: terror
the more we look at, might horrifying and confusing it is
hebrew name for sea close legends of dragon leviathan
Old Testament God alone tramples sea
hovers chaos and brings order
formless twisting nether seas of reality
by His word, Logos he shapes reality he made
Greeks rediscovered primordial truth
chaos of change ordered by the Logos,
the divine word subjects every last drop of chaos
the more the chaos, the more ordered
Ask why faith in high regard?
besides it being a product of love to hold something as true without intellectual certainty
it domesticates the sea of chaos
makes it solid land
If look in light of faith
everything find a proper order
But only in light of the ordering of faith.
if turn look at raging dragon of chaos itself, then sink
like peter turning away from Christ and noticing the noise of the world which is the sea and sinking like his name sake suggests: a rock
Difficulty
So easy is it to think we need to focus on life and not Christ
if we do not focus on wind
waves
storm
surely we will sink
but the reality is we will better stay afloat by focusing on Christ, the Good
like Peter if focus on the earthy worries ironically the worries consume us
first and foremost
cast out fear and worry
focus on Him
Christ calls us to tread over the stormy sea in Him
requires faith
ignore the disquiet of the waves of life
not sheer force of will,
not annihilation of mind
but thru faith that all is ordered by God and will grasp those from the depths who will to come to him
By appearance comes at 4th watch, and the salvation brings more apparent terror:
already near drowning and now an aspect of death appears: a ghost!
like Isaac, Joseph, Job, Lazarus, and most particularly himself
frees at last minute after an even mroe trial of appearances
The louder the storm of your soul, the more opportunity for clear faith and the triumph of the ordering peace of logos
for if you hear and see the sea you are to trample more loudly, the easier it is to make out what you are to trample.
Notes:
Notes:
Me
the more attacked by dragon of distress and fear, greater opportunity for order
enemy often strikes where he is most fearful
Greek doesnt say it is I, it say I AM (ego eimi), tetragrammaton
hovers over the waters of chaos (God)
comes to them in distress as I Am (like to Moses)
Seeing terrors and takes mind off God, then sink
letting distractions and earthly obligation take hold
Commentators:
Erasmo
Yam, related to chaos dragon
God brings order out of Chaos by Logos (Jewish revelation b4 Greeks, Greek philosophy discovers this truth, most manifest in Christ)
deliberately allows fear b4 coming
especially up to point seems too late (Lazarus, Job, Joseph, Isaac, especially self)
4th watch militarily then means it had been all night
[Chrysostom, in final victory gets even more fearful: ghost]
often only utterly weak learn of reality of their utter insufficieny
Peter 2 minded:
faith but worldly focus
half trust
