I don’t know about you, but I don’t always have the longing and yearning to be in the courts of the Lord that the psalmist expresses in Ps 84. I want to have a deep desire to be close to God. But I can’t maintain that longing. There are a pile of obstacles and distractions.
I’m preaching on Ps 84 because of an article I read. The article described the beauty and the wonder of simply spending devotional time with the Lord: reading the Bible, journaling, and praying to God with no bigger agenda than spending time with your heavenly father. Not preparing for a Bible study or preparing to lead in devotions; simply spending time soaking up God’s Word and basking in God’s presence.
To me, it seems that’s the kind of thing the psalmist is singing about:
Psalm 84:2 NIV
My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
