Last week we answered the question, “How does God execute His decrees?” If you remember last week we learned that God executes His decrees in the works of creation and providence. Our verse we were to memorize was from Revelation 4.11 “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.””

This week we are going a layer deeper and asking, “what exactly is the work of Creation?”

God made all things - like what? LET THEM ANSWER, what about the ice on Pluto? What about the scales on fish? What about each snowflake? What about every head of lettuce? Did He make the dirt? Did He make light? Is there anything that He didn’t make in all of Creation?

OK, can you prove it? Who can prove that God did this? LET THEM ANSWER HOPEFULLY WITH SCRIPTURE

He must have had something to start with right? Some basic materials like atoms that He found just floating around and decided to reformat into creation, right? LET THEM DEFEND THAT GOD MADE EVERYTHING FROM NOTHING (Hebrews 11.3 “By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.”)

How did He do this? Genesis 1.3 says what? Gen 1.3 “Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.”

What does this say God did? “Then God said.” God Himself spoke and it happened - now that is something I cannot do. Can you speak, “Cheese pizza and it just comes into being?” Nope, me neither.

How long did it take Him to do this? NOT SEVEN DAYS IN SIX HE CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM Genesis 1:31–2:1 “And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts.”

God created everything in 6 normal, regular days. The word for day in Hebrew is “Yom” and that is the word used here in Genesis 1.

How did God make it all, crummy, broken? Did He make it so that it leaked and the fixtures didnt sit right? No of course not He always ended each day by saying it looked good. What did Genesis 1:31–2:1 “And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts.”

SO WHAT?

God has decreed the world be created and He sustains it, He keeps it - why does that matter?

Who knows Q4? Q4 What is God? Q4 tells us God is the only eternal Spirit, holy, unchanging, good and just. Since He is all these things we can trust in Him. We can trust that He is good and just.

What is the verse for Q4? Ex 34.6-7 “Then Yahweh passed by in front of him and called out, “Yahweh, Yahweh God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.””

WHAT ELSE?

God’s Son is preparing a place for those who believe in Him right now. If He has been in heaven for nearly 2000 years then the place He is preparing must be super great, right?

John 14 ““Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. “And you know the way where I am going.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going.
