The Flying Scroll, Vs 1

Scroll

Scroll - Megilla (LXX “Sickle” b/c maggal)
scroll is used to mean the scriptures

Flying

has complete access to everywhere
it is a part of being in God’s community

The Size of The Scroll, Vs 2

The Length of The Scroll

The Meaning of It’s Length

The Size would be seen by all
could be symbolic of Justice to be done
1 Kings 6:3. (during the monarch, this was the place where justice was administered)

The Scroll in The Kingdom

the word of God dwells over us today as well for guidance, correction, and training in God’s way.
this is because God has a direction for His people
For Israel, bringing about the Messiah and being the shadow of the church
For us, preaching the gospel, placing all things under the feet of jesus

The Curse For Sin, Vs 3

The Curses from The Law

Lev. 26:14-46, Deut. 28: 15-68.
longer sections for curses than blessings.
if God is to dwell with them again, sin must be cast out.
Jesus took our curse for us, Gal. 3:13.

The Two Sins

Steals
Ex. 20:15.
it could be economy made it so
Swears falsely
Ex. 20:16.
vs 4, By my Name
Ex. 20:7.
preaching on problems of the time, priests not doing their jobs
Like the Decalogue, Sins against God and sins against man

Cleaned out

niqqah - to go without blame, to leave unpunished, remain blameless
cast out sin
AMP “Everyone who steals will be cut off.”
they have gone unpunished
LEB - “Everyone who steals has gone unpunished”
CSB “Then he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over the whole land, for everyone who is a thief, contrary to what is written on one side, has gone unpunished, and everyone who swears falsely, contrary to what is written on the other side, has gone unpunished.”
Sin cannot dwell where God is
God is promising to deal with the problem

The Consequence For Sin, Vs 4

God Will Send It Out

God will send out His Word
Is. 55:11.
God is taking responsibility in His sovereignty to take care of sin
similar to Jesus in Revelation to the churches
(Ephesus) Rev. 2:5, (Pergamum) Rev. 2:16, (Thyatira) Rev. 2:22.
God will ultimately send sin out forever, NHNE, Rev. 21:8.
