We Are God’s Temple 1 Corinthians 3:16-23

This church is in disarray! Paul is writing to correct it.
There was division in the church everyone had their own opinion about how church should go.
Some liked Paul, some liked Apollos
Paul deals with this division, in a powerful way, a way that is helpful for us as believers!
We all sang last night and I pray was sincere....... “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.”
We all were thankful of the fulfillment of the law by Christ and that we are forgiven, saved!
Now, we have to live this out in the world and this world is full of evil!
Walking by faith is difficult when faced with challenges!
Tonight, as we read here I pray that what Paul uses for correction and instruction, can help us in our difficult walk!
We are the Temple of God.......John 14:17 “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
Romans 8:11 “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”
The Holy Spirit dwells in you and that ought to make us quiver and tremble at God’s Word!
10 times Paul refers to this.....all in the same letter!
......................Because it is God’s temple anyone who fails to react rightly towards it is guilty of no light sin. The repetition of the verb destroy shows that the punishment is not arbitrary; it ‘fits the crime’.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Romans 14:8 “For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.”
Galatians 3:29 “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Galatians 5:24 “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
All things are ours because we are Christ’s and Christ is God’s!
Powerful statement! All things....
Paul
Apollos
Life
Death
Matthew Henry: “Death is a kind messenger that carries us to the Father.”
Things in the present
Things to come
Did not say anything about the past! Get out of the past and press toward!
2 Corinthians 4:1-18........
Hard Pressed---Hunted
Not crushed by this stress
Hard pressed, perplexed, persecuted, struck down
Paul’s life was hard because of his passionate devotion to Jesus Christ
Although all these things that are happening in his or your life doesn’t dictate the true state of the believer!
Not crushed, not in despair, not forsaken, not destroyed
You have to look no further than the triumph of Jesus in Paul’s life ........2 Corinthians 2:14 “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.”
All things are for your sakes......same kind of message.........that grace may cause thanksgiving.....
John 1:14-17 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”
