Lesson
Last week we closed talking about faithfulness.
And here are two thoughts I left you with and challenge you with today:
Do you value faithfulness in others?
DO you value being faithful yourself?
Faith is never blind, but it is measured.
Faith is never blind, it is measured.
What does that mean?
What are some things we measure?
wood… lol… when we work on stuff.
we measure our follows.
We measure out size (height, weight…)
in general, man, we measure ourselves against others.
Maybe we find our value in how well we think we measure up to others.
how funny they are, how smart they are, how talented they are
This morning I’m calling you guys to a simple, yet important truth straight from the mouth of God.
Value faithfulness.
If you really want to measure something, measure this.
God, the only perfect being in the universe, rather than throw you away because of your unfaithfulness and sin,
instead, went so far in his own faithfulness that He died to pay the debt of sin we owed Him!
The more you really sit and think about your sin…
And that Jesus is still faithful to us.
Holy smokes man.
Why would I compare myself to anything else.
____________
This morning, open your bibles to Genesis 12.
Someone read Genesis 12:1 “1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.”
Ok, God said to do what?
Go...
Where?
Where I will show you...
OK… Can I have some more details please God?
Does anyone else in this room want more details?
Dude, when we go do anything as a family in this season of life I’m like...
ok do we have diapers for Dex? check...
lunches for the boys? check...
snacks for the boys? check...
A second snack for the boys? check...
A back up snack for the second snack because one of them spills theirs, doesn’t want it, throws it at a brother, or does something else stupid… check...
coffee… check.
I mean, that’s a lot of details just to go check the mail… jk.
But man it feels like that with little kids.
God tells Abram, Go and I’ll show you where to stop.
uhh…
There’s only one way you follow that call.
You believe God is faithful because you’ve experienced His faithfulness.
So Why is God calling him away?
Someone flip to Joshua 24:2 “2 Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your ancestors, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates River and worshiped other gods.”
Read that for me.
Ok so Terah, Abram’s dad, worshiped false gods.
Why God chose Abram specifically, who knows, but Abram responded… that’s what matters.
Who knows, Maybe God called other men who ignored His call.
Let me ask you.
Do you want to be the man or woman in life who rejects God’s call or who answers?
Most of the time if I get a phone call and I don’t recognize the number, I’ll be honest I won’t answer.
I let them go to voicemail.
If it’s a real human, 50% of the time, they will text me so now I know who it is, how urgent it is, and why they called. Perfect… that’s all I need to know in this moment.
If it’s not a human, I’ll get a voicemail or nothing.
1/10 times, it’s an elderly person in church who needs me and I feel like a jerk for ignoring them haha.
But again, Why did God call Abram, maybe it’s simply because he answered…
May we always answer God’s call.
What does God say then in the next 3 verse?
Someone read Genesis 12:2-4 “2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.”
God promises Abram a few things here.
To boil it down to 3 things he said this:
I’ll give you land.
I’ll give you descendents (people/nation)
I’ll make you a blessing tot he whole world - “all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Pretty awesome promises honestly.
So what does Abram do?
Hebrews 11:8-9 “8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country;
Abram Went.
Where is God leading you?
What is God calling you too?
These are questions we ask ourselves going into 6th grade and these are questions we ask ourselves when we graduate High School.
Let me challenge you to this.
Be men and women who are faithful to Christ.
Above all else.
Be faithful.
As you are are faithful to Christ, you will see his faithfulness to you.
As you see his faithfulness today, it will give you strength to rely on his faithfulness tomorrow.
Abraham went to the land God promised Him simply because He responded to God in faith.
He took a step.
What about you?
What about me?
Will I take a step today in faithfulness to Christ.
I pray we do.
