I don't want you to misunderstand this. You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. Introduction: You and I are blessed to have a Heavenly Father who loves giving gifts to His children. (Matthew 7:11) So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. Spiritual Gifts Are Given For The Advantage Of Everybody In The Church. Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. Two implications: (v 15-16) * Nobody should dismiss their own gift * Nobody should dismiss the gifts of other people. Paul's whole point here is that everyone has something and nobody has everything. * Don't mistake spiritual gifts for natural talents or skills. o An atheist/agnostic can be a great scientist, carpenter or athlete, to excel in some natural talent is not necessarily spiritual given. Conclusion: What do I want you to take away from this message? 1. You have a spiritual gift. Pray that God will help you to discover it. 2. Don't compare gifts-they are all the same in God's eyes and no particular gift makes you more special than another believer. 3. God is at work in you to help other people.
