Your Word for Today: JESUS DID SOME AWESOME THINGS (Isa 64:3)
He performed some marvels before the people (Exo 34:10)!
He did great things in Egypt (Deut 4:34)!
Which Egyptian eyes did see (Deut 10:21)!
Mountains melted before Him (Judges 5:4-5)!
He redeemed His people (2Sa 7:23)!
He girded with power (Psa 65:6)!
He has made men submit to Him (Psa 66:3)!
Genesis 15-16
5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
God’s promise:
Great nation
No ability to number them
Blessing to the whole earth
Problem?
30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
And they were old...
Doubt had begins to creep in.
God reiterates (AND MORE) his promise to him.
1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2 And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
Abram is questioning God and God deals with him very strongly.
10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
Need to read through verse 20 if have not!
OT Convenant process:
Animals cut in half and the two going into covenant saying if I break it, let what was done to these animals be done to me!
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
Here God alone passes through the animals
God is saying that HE alone will bring it to pass!
Even with all that, doubts persist!
gen16.2
2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
6 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
Genesis 16:10 (KJV 1900)
10 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
Was this the promised child?
No, Abram and Sarai lost faith and tried to help God!
Same problem that we have saw from the beginning!
Lucifer had a better plan.
Eve had a better plan.
Cain had a better plan.
Whole world but Noah had a better plan.
Nimrod had a better plan.
Abram had a better plan!
The greatest sin/arrogance of man and demon is thinking they have a better plan!
NT application:
God made Abram a promise: “No matter what, I will make you a great nation”.
Even though Abram messed up really bad, God kept his word!
Even though God had to change his name from Exalted Father to Father of Many Nations because of Abram’s sin.
He STILL kept his promise!
This was a type and shadow of what was to come!
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
He was the covenant sacrifice that God passed through promising to the obedient salvation!
22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and one by a free woman.
23 But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.
24 Now this may be interpreted allegorically: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar.
25 Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.
Covenant of slavery = flesh, individual plan
Covenant of Promise/Jerusalem = spirit, salvation
20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
The closer you get to Him, the easier it is to submit to him!
