Colossians 3:1-17
Good evening y’all, it is a joy to be with you guys tonight. We are in the second and final week of our semester kickoff series “Habits”.
This series is all about...
Last week we talked about 1 Timothy chapter 4, and I left you with a question. This semester are you going to try to be Godly, or are you going to train yourself for Godliness.
We looked at how the Bible doesnt tell us to try and be Godly, but it tells us to train ourselves for Godliness, and thats going to be hard, but it’s worth it because Godliness leads us into the fullness of our purpose and the joy and peace offered us in a Christ centered life.
And if yall remember, we not only talked about our purpose for training ourselves for Godliness, but we also talked about our plan. And the first part of that plan is to get Jesus on your calendar, because you dont set aside time for Jesus, for the word of God and prayer, its 9/10 not going to happen.
So we need Jesus on our calendar, and when we start showing up for those appointments the spirit becomes alive in us and we are able to make Godly decisions.
Now, look at me, we need Jesus on our calendar, because we are human and we need plans and discipline to grow into the people we want to be.
But here’s what can happen. All too often we have Jesus on our calendar, 6-630m meet with him in the morning, 10-12am sundays church, 630-8;00 wednesdays NOLO Night. Those are all great great things to have on your calendar, but we can get into the habit of having Jesus on our calendar and lacking peace in our lives.
You ever feel like that? Your calendar has Jesus names all over it, but you lack peace in your life?
And that can sound heretical to say. How could be that Jesus name is all over my calendar but I lack peace?
Honestly yall I wish I could say just fill your calendar with Jesus things and you will have peace.
Thats, unfortunately not how it works.
Here is what I think the reason for that is: We as humans are plagued by the reality of the present. Each moment we are in has its own very real set of emotional, physical, and spiritual experiences that make that moment feel ultimate and
