Many want to ask why we still need the Holy Ghost! Why do we need the gifts of the Holy Spirit? “I don’t hear about Him in a lot of churches” even Pentecostal ones! “I don’t see the actions of the Spirit in a lot of churches. (A lot of churches teach the baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gave utterance was for the Apostles and the early church.) some just want to say why do we need him (not it) now?

John 14:15-17 (KJV 1900)

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Jesus made it clear to the disciples that the world couldn’t receive the Spirit of its own because they could not see it. But you know Him (the Comforter for he dwelleth in you)

1.   He reproves the world from sin

a.       When he is come he will reprove the world from sin

John 16:8 (KJV 1900)

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

b.       He Pricks the hearts (convicts from sin)

Acts 2:37 (KJV 1900)

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Acts 2:41 (KJV 1900)

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

c.       When Paul and Silas were delivered the jailer fell at their feet

Acts 16:29-30 (KJV 1900)

29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

2.   He comforts the Christian

a.       The church walks in the comfort of the Spirit

Acts 9:31 (KJV 1900)

31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

b.       Spirit is called the comforter more than once in the Bible

c.       He comforts us in times of suffering and sorrow

3.   He helps our infirmities

a.       Spirit helps our infirmities and prays for us

Romans 8:26 (KJV 1900)

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

4.   He teaches us

a.       He shall teach us

John 14:26 (KJV 1900)

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

1 Corinthians 2:13 (KJV 1900)

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
