Introduction

To show confidence is to express certainty in something. It is to be sure of somthing
Whether it’s a PLAN, PERSON, PLACE, PROJECT It means I am sure this thing is solid
I have no need to be concern because of a high level of certainty

There are not many things in our lives that we can say that about. . .But God is someone we can have confidence in

God is unchanging
God is unlike anything else
God’s power is matchless
God’s wisdom is unsearchable
God’s love is immense
God’s judgement is sure

You can put CONFIDENCE IN GOD

The Text

Absalom tries to usurp the throne and David has to run from his home, Jerusalem. This is the city of God. This is where God’s presence is. This is what makes the difference
It is not the buildings
It is not the artifacts
It is not the topography
It is GOD

It means therefore, that the source of your cry is not as significant as the direction of your cry

This means that it doesn’t matter WHAT makes me cry as long as know WHO to cry to

That’s why David begins the Psalm in this fashion. . .
Ps 61:1Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer.” [synonymous parallelism]
Both verbs employ the use of Heb. imp. [great degree of desirability] expressing confidence in the making the request.
Confidence stems from these two places:
I know prayer works [APPL. I see it in the life of others and in my life]
I know God [APPL. You can’t fully trust what you don’t know]
Ps 61:2 “From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
This verse displays the confidence even more by highlighting David’s state - “from the end of the earth”
Sometimes situations make feel I’m at the end
End of my options
End of my patience
End of strength
At my wit’s end
On my last nerve

This is where I need to cry to God!

The Psalmist is either describing something physical or spiritual, he feels far from his God
[APPL. The word “cry” means to shout! Sometimes when we feel far from God we need to shout harder and seek to draw closer]

There is no place too far that God cannot hear

[APPL. the magnitude of the problem never surpasses the magnitude of God’s power]

“Lead me” - Sometimes we try to lead God, and not let God lead us

Lead me to the Rock

I read somewhere 1 Pet 2:7 “This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “The stone which the builders rejected, This became the very corner stone,””
Eph 2:20 “having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone,”

Jesus is that Rock

He’s the Rock of Ages
He is the Ebenezer “the rock of help”
He is the Rock that cares “cast all your cares on me for He cares for you”
He is the Rock of safety “I am the door of the sheep” - anything that has to get to you must get through Jesus [The wolf, the Thief, the Lion]
He is the Rock of comfort Heb 4:15-16.
He is the Rock of Stability “He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever more
He is your Rock of Salvation
When you put your trust in Jesus not even DEATH, can conquer you
Jn 11:25-26 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?””

So put your confidence in Him

Ps 61:3 “For You have been a refuge for me, A tower of strength against the enemy.”
This part of the Psalm seems to be reflective on what God has done
[APPL. my past experience with God lays the foundation for confidence in the present and future]
As a result of all that God is, David says:
Ps 61:4 “Let me dwell in Your tent forever; Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.”
Many times we think the victories, blessings, break-throughs are the main thing in our relationship with God.
This “let me” may be translated “I will”
But David’s reslove is to dwell in the presence of God. The “shelter” not only speaks to protection but COVENANT RELATIONSHIP.

This is only accessed in The Lord today.

Are you in relationship with Jesus? If not, why not change that status today?
