I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE LORD
The Gospel According To Moses
Part 3
Deut. 11:8-17
What does the LORD God require of you? Eighth, be careful—very careful—to keep all the commandments of God.
Moses knew that obedience was an absolute essential in order for God’s people to live full and victorious lives.
Above all else, victory was dependent upon obedience.
No believer would ever be allowed to live in the land of God unless he obeyed God.
For this reason, Moses exhorted the people to keep all the commandments of God
I. WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE OF YOU?
A. Moses Declared: Obey God.—V8
1. You Will Be Strong Enough To Conquer The Promised Land.
a. Be Able To Conquer Enemies.
b. Obedience Insures They Will Live Victoriously In The Promised Land.
Herschal Hobbs: Early one morning a group of us stood outside a hotel in Jerusalem. Around us gathered a group of Arab children, dirty and ill-clad. Their poverty and misery screamed at us. Most of the children begged for money. However, I will never forget the pleas of one little girl. “Please take me to America with you!” she cried. To her America was truly the “Promised Land.”
B. Moses Declared: Obey God.—V9
1. You Will Live A Long Time In The Promised Land.
2. If They Were Unfaithful, Disobedient.
a. It Would Cause Them To Lose The Promised Land.
b. Other Nations Would Conquer Them.
C. Moses Declared: Obey God.—V9b-12
1. God Will Make Sure That The Land Will Flow With Milk And Honey.
a. V10—Land Will Not Need To Be Irrigated Like Egypt Was.
b. V11—Beautiful Land With Plenty Of Rain.
1) More Than Enough Water For Everyone, Livestock And Crops.
c. V12—God Will Watch Over The Land Day By Day.
1) From The Beginning Of The Year To The End.
Curtis Jones: For years the late Charles E. Fuller conducted “The Old-Fashioned Revival Hour” on radio. One of the favorite selections of the revival hour quartet was “This World Is Not My Home.” Yes, Christians are in the world, but they are not of the world. The Word of God describes the believer in Christ as a pilgrim, a stranger, a traveler. The Christian in this life does experience “a foretaste of glory divine,” but the ultimate glory awaits him. He longs for the “city whose Builder and Maker is God.” And he yearns to behold Jesus face to face.
D. Moses Declared: Obey God.
1. Obedience Is A Condition For Blessings.
a. V14—God Will Send Rain In Season.
b. V15—God Will Give Abundant Crops.
1) Plenty Of Food For His People And The Livestock.
c. V15b—God Will Give Satisfaction.
· The blessings of God are dependent upon obedience. If we obey God, we receive the promised land of heaven and will have God’s blessings poured out upon us.
· We walk through life conquering all the enemies that confront us, that is, all the trials and temptations that seek to defeat and destroy us.
· There is far less lawlessness and violence within a community when its people keep God’s commandments.
· This is the reason God demands obedience. He wants us living victorious lives upon this earth.
· He wants us marching to the promised land as conquerors, being victorious over all that ever confronts us.
· But we must remember: obedience is the essential ingredient.
W. B. Riley used to tell the story of a man who had walked the streets of Philadelphia searching for employment. One day he happened to go into the office of a well-known businessman by the name of Girard. When he asked for a job, Mr. Girard answered, “Yes, I can give you work. See that pile of bricks out there? Carry them over to the other end of the yard and stack them up.”
By nightfall the man reported that the project was completed and received his pay. When asked if there would be more work the next day, his employer said, “Yes, come in tomorrow and carry those same bricks back to where you found them.” The following morning he came in early and got busy without a word. For more than a week he was instructed to carry bricks back and forth until it was evident that he could be trusted to do exactly what he was told.
Then he was given a new and bigger responsibility—to go downtown and bid on a large quantity of sugar. Not recognizing him, the people at the auction were surprised by the bid of this total stranger. When it was accepted, the auctioneer asked who would pay the bill. “Mr. Girard,” the man replied. “I am his agent.” He had earned this position by being faithful in a menial task.
· Obedience is that which gives us victory.
· Obedience causes the power of God to work in our lives.
· Obedience allows God to bless us, to pour His blessings out upon us.
· This is the reason we must obey God, keep all His commandments.
Joh 14:21  “The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will reveal Myself to him.”
2. Matt. 7:24-27
