(pistis) is the quality which renders a person trustworthy or reliable, like the faithful servant
Hebrews 11:1–3 (NIV84)
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Faith is being sure of the presence of God
We live by faith, not by sight.
Faith is being certain of God and HIS ability to make turn broken dreams into a life redeemed; to make His power a reality for today.

But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Faith is also a way of viewing all experience since it is the way in which believers see the universe.

The New Pilgrim Bible Hebrews 11
Faith is simply taking God at His word. This description of faith leads the writer of the epistle to unfold the long and famous “honor roll” of Old Testament persons who lived, endured, and died in faith, and had from God the testimony that they were pleasing to Him. It is important to remember that God has never had two ways of saving men. Faith has always been the way to salvation—faith in God in the Old Testament (old covenant) and faith in the blood of Christ in the New Testament (new covenant).
Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
“So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”
And yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world.
It is time for us to move some mountains.
It is time for us to move some mountains.
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
