Once Saved Always Saved!!!!

We Have Eternal Security Because of God’s Protection!

I have always been found of verse 31 to be a great verse of promise. If God is for us, then who or what can be against us. While we know that Satan is always against God’s people and that he is always throwing attacks at us, we know that God has defeated Satan and death once and for all when he died on the cross.
1 Corinthians 15:55–56 ESV
55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
Jesus defeated sin!
Jesus defeated death!
Jesus defeated satan!!!
The Apostle Paul even warned us that attacks would be coming and told us to suit up for the battle. However, the armor that we are told to put on is all centered around God. We can’t defeat satan on our own…it’s only through the power of Jesus and the Holy Spirit that we can overcome those attacks.
Ephesians 6:10–13 ESV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Look down at Romans 8:37
Romans 8:37 ESV
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Not only is God for us…he had made us conquerors over satan as well. That’s the power of the Gospel living in us.
Back to Romans 1:16
Romans 1:16 ESV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
In verse 33, Paul asks the question: Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? He then answers it…It’s is only God who can justify someone. We might not like it, but God is the only one you need to be concerned with pleasing because it is only God who has the final say in your life. No one can condemn the followers of Christ.
Back to Romans 8:1
Romans 8:1 ESV
1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
If God is for us, who can be against us? Satan and those under his power are against us, but in the end, God promises the victory. No one will oppose God and his followers forever; their dreadful end is also sure.

We Have Eternal Security Because Of God’s Provision!

The greatest provision God ever gave us was His Son Jesus!
As we talked about last week, God made a plan long before man was even made that would allow us to be reconciled to God because of our sin. That plan was by giving His Son, His Only Son Jesus for our Sins!!!!
In verses 32-34 we read...
He didn’t spare His Son for Us! If He loves us that much that He wouldn’t spare His Son, how do we have such difficult times knowing that God will provide and meet our needs in this life and the life to Come.
Romans 5:8 ESV
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
God’s provision of His Son made possible a way for us to be reconciled with God and to spend all of eternity with HIm. It was his love for us as well as his deep longing for a relationship with us that caused Him to do that. He not only saves us for now, he saves us for all eternity.
He made a provision for us to over come sin!
He made a provision for us to over come death!
He made a provision for us to live eternally with Him!
Jesus died a brutal death on the cross so that we could have forgiveness of our sins. I want you to look though at verse 34.
Christ Died
Christ Raised
Christ is at God’s Right Hand
Christ is interceding on our behalf today!
So, if God loved us so much that He gave His Son for our sins, raised his son from death to life so that we could be raised from death to life, why would he do all that if we could just be plucked away from him? He wouldn’t!!!
Look at the promises found in the rest of the passage!!!!!!

We Have Eternal Security Because of God’s Promise!

Romans 8:35 ESV
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
Romans 8:37 ESV
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Romans 8:38–39 ESV
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
If we can’t believe these promises of eternal security then we can’t believe any of the verses in the Bible which point us to eternal security. If there is no such thing as eternal security then John 3:16 isn’t true. No matter how much you believe then there can’t be eternal life.

The Lord Jesus Christ proclaimed, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand" (John 10:28-29b). Both Jesus and the Father have us firmly grasped in their hand. Who could possibly separate us from the grip of both the Father and the Son? Ephesians 4:30 tells us that believers are "sealed for the day of redemption." If believers did not have eternal security, the sealing could not truly be unto the day of redemption, but only to the day of sinning, apostasy, or disbelief. John 3:15-16 tells us that whoever believes in Jesus Christ will "have eternal life." If a person were to be promised eternal life, but then have it taken away, it was never "eternal" to begin with. If eternal security is not true, the promises of eternal life in the Bible would be in error. The most powerful argument for eternal security is Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Our eternal security is based on God’s love for those whom He has redeemed. Our eternal security is purchased by Christ, promised by the Father, and sealed by the Holy Spirit.
Romans Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love / 8:28-39

Nothing in all creation can take us away from God’s love or thwart his purposes for us

The only person who can keep us from experiencing God’s love and the promise of eternal life is ourselves.
Today, you can have the security to know that God is for you, with you, and wants the best for you....
You must choose Christ!
