James 2:23 (KJV 1900)

23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Abram or Abraham has long been called the friend of God!

Abram would receive a call of God at age 70

Ch 12 -

Leave your fathers house

Find a land I will show you

There I will make your name great

You will be a blessing

I will bless those that bless you, curse those that curse you

The whole earth will be blessed by you

So Abram takes everything he owns and sets out to obey God.

At least five years in the time that God calls him...

AND takes Lot

Wonders down to Egypt…

Lies to the king because he was afraid that they would kill him to steal her.

BUT he is learning how to trust God!

We know that because he has to separate from Lot (FINALLY)

Lot chooses the well watered plains and he ends up in the mountains and desert trusting God.

Chapter 15

Abram is about 80 years of age.

God appears to him again, I am your shield and great reward.

Abraham says; Really?! How can that be, you haven’t kept your promise to me yet!

God makes a covenant with him - 3 yrs old heifer, female goat, ram, turtledove, young pigeon.

Then Hagar and Ismael

Ishmael becomes a nation

12 sons becomes nations

Marries Keturah, has 6 more sons who most became nations...

Because God keeps his promise!

Chapter 17 God would change his name

Abram = exalted father

Abraham = father of many nations

Not intended for him to be the father of one nation that would bless the world

But God changed his name bc he messed up after God had bound himself to His word!

No wonder what God asked him to sacrifice Issac!

God had to prove that Abram really trusted him!

God said, Now I know!
